New to road biking - where to go from here

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

New to road biking - where to go from here

Short and sweet - just got my first road bike after several years spent mountain biking. Bought the Kuota Korsa Lite after test-riding a few different entry-level bikes. My LBS told me that this frame is one of the lightest alu frames around, and it just felt better than the others I tried out.

I'm 40yrs old and have no illusions about my fitness level. I'm not very fast (yet), and I breathe harder in my first 10min than most of you 10km into the hills...but I love it. I'm averaging about 100-125km a week and my cycling goals extend no further than 50km weekend rides and the odd longer charity event.

My point? I'm a bit of a gear head and already find myself drooling over all the bike porn on this site. I don't see Kuota discussed much on this forum and would like some opinions on whether this is a frame worth building on, or should it one day be relegated to "rain bike" status and replaced altogether with a step up in technology? Would upgrading components be like putting Porsche wheels on a VW?

Thanks in advance for your opinions.

Why would you even be thinking about relegating your brand new bike to "rain bike" status?

Go ride and have fun!

congrats!

i dont see kuotas much in my area, but the ones i have seen looked pretty nice. if the frame fits you well i would say its worthy of almost any upgrade you throw at it. that said, it looks like it is already set up extremely sell for a first road bike. there are a lot of people that would love to have 105 components and plenty of people that race them.

Don't get me wrong - I love the bike and there will be no new bike for a few more years at least. I'm just wondering if quenching my gear thirst with upgrades is prudent given the entry-level platform I'm starting from.

I'd be bad to give advice since I'm currently shoveling money into my bike.

Bike looks pretty good to me. Only fix stuff when it's broken. If you are having fun, enjoying the time on the bike, and feel comfortable, just keep chugging along! No need to change anything! Don't let the bike forums peer pressure get to ya.
