Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Easier to ask forgiveness than permission

It's so tempting to just buy the bike and see what the wife does when she finds out.

That is all.

Once in a while we need to put the pants on. Buy it, ride it and she'll like it.

Methinks selection bias may rear its ugly head here.

Do it. Then call orbitz.com, remember if they book a room lower than yours, you get the difference back

As long as the colicy baby stays in the bedroom, I like it very much.

Nice. Mind if I bring the baby along? He won't drink much of the beer.

There's a reason I posted here and not the pregnancy forums.

Don't be an arsehole, talk to her about it before you buy the bike. Or, buy one for her too.

I already have talked with her, and have been awaiting her decision (with no bike to ride) for 2 weeks now. In that time, I have gained 3 lb (on top of the 23 I gained during the pregnancy) with no reversal in sight.

She has no interest in riding, although she is considering an elliptical bike in a few years for family rides around the park.

One of those was me.

Never let it be said that Velo Vol (who is single) doesn't respect the sanctity of marriage . . . for someone else.

Alright, now you're talkin'. I was initially gonna say talk it thru with the wife, but now I'm thinking, still talk it thru with the wife with the view that you're gonna get the bike (but dont quite tell her it that way). Being without a bike and gaining weight just plain out sucks. I crashed my rb twice in a month but both times I've had backup bike on the ready. It's not as nice, but it's something.

I vote "yes" because generally this is what I do, but here's the deal. Know your wife. Every wife is different.

I just do a naked dance where I swing it side to side and I'm forgiven.

One of the Main Rules:

In questions of an emotional nature, the thing you find hardest to do is generally the thing you should do
...

Only you can answer this question. None of us can even help.

P.S. Most divorces evolve out of scenarios where asking forgiveness is unsuccessful. Few divorces come from asking permission.

Hey buzzkill, if I wanted serious advice, I would have called up her father. That does remind me, though: I have never cheated on her. Shouldn't that be a selling point?
