Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My tire of choice is the Tufo Elite clincher. Fastest tire on the market...bar none!!!!

Ride is smooth even at high pressure. Wear like iron too. I expect my set to last 3000 miles.

THey are expensive.Cheapest I could find was $117/pair delivered at bike tires direct.

I bought a used set off ebay last week. They should be here any day now. I'll let you know how they turn out.

I bought 2 pair last year. One pair of S33s for the road bike, and one set of 'cross to put on my commuter to try cyclocross. I wound up e-baying the 'cross tires, cause I was just too cooked by the start of 'cross season and didn't compete, so I can't comment on those. What I've heard is that, next to actual tubulars, they're the best because you can run them at low pressure. As far as tubies go, there's some gawd-awful expensive brand that seems to be the choice for those with unlimited budgets.

As far as the S33s, they're good tires. As mentioned before, they're kind of pricey, especially for the weight. The compound is typical carbon rubber, as opposed to the silicone compounds used in, e.g. Mich Pro Race or Conti GP 3000s. They're a little heavy because of the extra stuff required to mount them on clincher rims. They can be very difficult to mount... be sure to read and use the mounting instructions. I liked the ride and handling. Be sure to purchase and use the sealant. For what it's worth, one of my tires was rendered unusable when I punctured it by hitting a large rock. I was riding out my gravel drive at low speed and hit a rock about half the size of a fist. It made a puncture large enough that the sealant couldn't repair it, even though I tried many times.

I just got them today.

Mine weren't too hard to mount.

23mm Elite tubular clinchers: My first impressions inflated to 140 psi are that these tires ride very cushy....very smooth compared to my overinflated to 140 psi low end Kenda's. Rollling resistance seems the same between the , but eith much less frame rattling with the Tufo. Infact I would say the Tufo's at 140 psi were smoother than my kenda's at 110 psi.

I'll test them more extensively this weekend, I was getting dark by the time I had them mounted.

I've been running the S33s for awhile.
Smooth and long wearing.
Have had no fl@#%s.
Can take ridiculous PSI and still roll smooth though I'm a clydesdale.

I, and many others, found them to be an absolute bear to mount. The pre-stretch routine for regular sew-ups doesn't work b/c of the rubber mounting strip that catches on clincher rims.

OTOH others report they mounted pretty easily. I believe them but it's a skill I don't possess to be sure.

Scored mine off eBay whewn they were still a bit of a novelty and only paid ~$50 pp. More $ now.

Mine were used....so they were already stretched. I found there is a little bit if a trick to mounting them. After you have them around the rim, but not fully seated, try adding a little air pressure to them to help finally seat them. You can always let a little air out to manipulate them further.

I got the Elite's because they were the only ones in 23mm and I prefer a wider tire. I wish they came in 25mm to be honest.

So far, though, much smoother at 140 psi than the Kenda clinchers at the same psi.

We shall how they stand up to some hard riding this weekend.

Can't comment on the elite tubular clinchers but the
Road Elite Clincher is a wonderful tire. Nice and cushy and
a smooth as silk ride. Reminiscent of the old Clement Paris Roubaix
tires (pre taiwan please).
Soon to be seen, Tufo's with SKINWALL (at least skinwall colour)
for that oh so classic look!

I think we are talking about the same tire...THe one I am referring to is also knoiw as the elite clincher. All of tufos tires are tubeless just depends on whether they make provisions for it to be mounted on a clincher rim or not.
