Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

If I had to guess the answer to that is no, at least none that you would want to own. I have read cheap carbon is no good. However, if you buy used you should find a nice carbon in your budget.

And welcome!

I think you can get a Specialized Allez for less than a grand...

Carbon fork, the rest aluminum.

A used bike would be your best bet.

Wait for a sale at Performance Bike. You can pick up their house brand "Scattante" Sport for right at a $1000. Full carbon with mostly 105.

CAAD 9. Not carbon. But it's good if you want a "serious" road bike at that price point.

Good idea! That way you can test ride it and have someone in the store ensure a good fit.

If you go that way, spend $20 more to become a Performance Team Member. You get a credit of $1 back for every $10 you spend sp that's $100 towards future accessories.

The best road bike is the one that fits and the one you ride. Have you visited your LBS? This would be the best thing for you to do and find what is available in your area.

You'll find some if you look on Craigslist. I did, and there should be a few. It can be done: https://boulder.craigslist.org/bik/1896763186.html - It's a pretty cool bike, but it a TT bike, so...

That's not what you want. But the bikes would be a tad old, so it wouldn't be particularly stiff compared to today's bikes. Especially the Kestrel, God, I wonder what sprinting would feel like on it.

Under a 1000 carbon is going to have to be used. Which is fine. CAAD 9 is a great bike as long as it doesn't have sora.

Up here in Canada, our cross country automotive/everything else retailer started selling an all carbon bike this year for 999 CDN. Components are the ones below Sora. Tires are 700*23's. One size. Canadiantire.ca

Most likely a re-badged Fuji(good bike).Buy an Ultegra RD from Nashbar for $60-70 and you're good to go.
They do go a bit nuts with all those Scattante stickers everywhere.Gives it the Cervelo rolling billboard look.
