Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What size of tube do I need to accomodate my tire?

I have a Vittoria Zaffiro Pro tire in 700c x 23 size. I'm a total newb to this, so I don't know what the numbers mean. What size of tube would I need to accomodate this tire?

I saw some 700x25 on sale, but I'm thinking the 25 might be a width so it will not fit.

Please suggest.

For a 23C tire, use a 18/23c tube.

Thanks! Just ordered a kenda 18/23c from Amazon!

As far as the numbers: I assume 23c is the width? Then what is 18?

Tubes will expand and fit a variety of different width tires. In the case of a 18/23c the tube will fit a tire that is anyware from 18 to 23c wide.

^ It's a range. It means the tube is intended for tires 18mm to 23mm wide.

Innertubes stretch a lot. You don't have to be too precise with them. A tube nominated as 18-23 will work in a tire 25-28mm wide 9or more if you push it).

And a tube labeled for 25mm wide will work in a 23mm wide tire, although depending on the tube, you may have some difficulty getting the tire seated without pinching off the tube.

[edit] Garysol types faster.

Dumb question, but why wouldn't you just got to your LBS and avoid shipping?
