Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

So I have a friend (who is not a cyclist btw) that has started selling Advocare. I've never heard of it before she started with it and have always used Hammer products. However, as she's selling it I'll be able to get the stuff for almost nothing. She brought me some samples of an energy mix, recovery mix, pre-workout mix, and arginine mix (no clue what that is haha). I was wondering if any of you had experience with Advocare's products and what you thought about them.

Thanks,
Marcos

(Disclaimer: I'm not selling, endorsing, or even know that I like this stuff yet so don't take it that way.)

Advocare is honestly great stuff. I've used their stuff before and was always satisfied. However, Advocare is one of those Pyramid Marketing schemes. So, lots of people have friends who sell the stuff...then they'll try to get you to buy in and become a distributor under them and so forth. Product is great, business model...not so much, unless you are into pyramid marketing sales things....

So it's like an Herbalife copy-cat? If so, read the ingredients carefully. My father started selling that stuff and offered to sell it to me at cost (this would help him fill his quota even if he didn't make any money, btw) but after reviewing the nutritional information, even their energy drink mix was more like a diet product than a sports product. Too few calories, too few carbs, and even the protein wasn't very good for the portions.

Oh, and if your "friend" offers you a significant discount if you sign up to be a distributor (or anything like that), I suggest you run like the wind.

I am a distributor because I like the products and not because I wanted to set up a pyramid business... So in full disclosure I guess I am a "sales person" but I have only sold two friends of mine products that were using my products and liked them. I have sold less than $100 worth of stuff to people other than myself so I guess my point is that I am not a big sales person but rather a person that uses the products. I use the O2 gold which I have noticed a increase in my breathing ability at a harder effort as well as the occasional Rehydrate and Spark drinks. Not a huge proponent of them unless you are trying to keep calories lower and sugar lower than what is offered in Gatorade. Everything that I have taken from the vitamins to the products mentioned above I have been pleased with. As for building a pyramid marketing business under me I am not interested. I am just signed up for the 20% discount that I receive. If you sell more your discount becomes more that is just not what I signed up for myself. I just like being able to order it myself and I can get a slight break on pricing. Just my .02...

marketing hype. Before I retired from the newspaper business, I did a number of stories on these kinds of things. I couldn't find a nutritionist or physician who'd recommend any of them or agree that they're of benefit to the average person. They dismiss success stories as either paid testimonials or undeserved. Typically, people buy this stuff when they get serious about training. They ride hard, watch what they eat, stop drinking beer and take the expensive product, then when they get fit, they credit the miracle elixir. Generally it doesn't help as much as the rest of the regimen.

Velo Dog I can not argue with anything that you said... Maybe it is just mental. Who knows...
