What do you use for training logs? What info do you record?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What do you use for training logs? What info do you record?

I use a spiral notebook. I use one line per day and make additional notes on the facing page. It's primitive but lets me record the vital statistics: miles, ascent per mile, average speed moving, heart rate (average & max), and cadence. I also record the group (or solo). I don't record weather, liquid, food, stops, etc.

Someone started a thread about average speed. A bunch responded with precise numbers. Which caused light to start glowing in my dim head - of course there's a better way to do this. Maybe I should ask...

I use WKO+

It records the location of every molecule and their precise location in the universe at every instant.

Or maybe just speed, power, location, altitude, etc. at every second...

I use bikejournaldotcom. I like the ranking system, a little motivation to ride an extra mile or two. Basic membership is free and gives you 4 cooumns of data. I have the prem membership but still only use ride time, average, distance and a ride descrip. I'm not into hr's, cadence, calories etc, just a little basic info for the memories.

It tracks the yearly and lifetime mileage of each bike, plus the profile with bike pics is cool.

I use mapmyride to map out distances, the stopwatch on my watch to time myself, and MS Excel to record time, distance, average speed, course, effort, a ride description, and weather. This system is pretty bare-bones but it seems to be enough information.

I used SportTracks and fed the GPX files from my Garmin into it. Then my Garmin stopped working, so now I just go on bike rides, and reset the distance on my bike computer every morning. I know at the end of the day how many miles and hours I did, but that's the extent of it. I do miss having the GPS data.

Use to use sporttracks and PerfPro simultaneously but have stopped using sporttracks. PerfPro is better, imo, at all things related to power and a training schedule and grouping types/dates of activities. The TSB chart is easier to work with as well. My favorite part is the "find the best" segment of a ride like highest 20 minute power output, or highest 5 mile cadence, etc. The reports look great when printed out to. GL with whatever you use.

I use Garmin Training Center. It sucks. Sooner or later, I'll do the online version, but I just haven't been that bored lately.

WKO+ for me too. I love how I can easily trend data over time with it, and it's a snap to get the info from my Garmin 500 into the software.

Garmin Connect I use only to share ride info with others.

To record sub-atomic particle locations you have to purchase the "quantum version".

Yeah I didn't think the cost/value tradeoff was worth it.

Trainingpeaks.com

With everything you can do with it, there's just no need for anything else. PLUS, I like the virtual coach option and the Annual Training Plan stuff....AND the nutrition stuff, and the ability to track/graph with trending.
Love it.

In addition to being both educational and fun, keeping a log allows me to track my pathetically feeble efforts and gives me an excuse to drink more.
