Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Generic carbon rims on ebay from china

Has any one used these. If so any pros or cons? I don't race pretty much ride for excersize but I do ride hard. I want to build them up with a set of CK hubs I already have. I weigh 230 but am on my way down in weight. Normally I weigh about 200-220. I know I'm not built like a typical roadie. Thanks for all opinions/answers ahead of time

There are more than one type on ebay. Much like the OEM frames on ebay, some are better than others. Some are the exact same rims sold under different brand names that have received good reviews.

I just imported a bunch of Gigantex and Mega rims... honestly I'm more of a fan of the Mega stuff right now, even though Gigantex is perhaps better known here.

Don't know what ebay ad you're looking at, but some of those rims are used on bunches of 'real' wheels.

I'm pretty sure I've seen those where the seller actually said they are alloy rims with a carbon wrap - not to be confused with carbon rims with allow brake surface. That makes them alloy aero rims, NTTIAWWT.

No offense but you weigh 230, don't race, and want to buy chinese made carbon rims? To me this just seems like a bad idea, but what do I know.

(note) : I am not trying to be xenophobic in my remark, but let's be honest chinese+ebay= a cheaper version of something else - a knockoff, if you will.
