Skaneateles, Otisco Lakes-w/pics
Last month we did a ride around these two lakes in Central NY. Started in LaFayette, west to Skaneateles, south down the west side of the lake, around the south end, and then cut over to the east side of Otisco lake on the return. About 68 miles, 6000' of climbing.
West on 20, in apple orchard country.
A vineyard on the west side.
View of Skaneateles lake.
East side of Otisco Lake.
It was a great ride, and I'm looking forward to doing it again next month.

Nice pics. Yesterday wasn't bad riding here in CNY, though it was a bit windy. I looped down through Hamilton, NY and then back up to Utica through the hills and back roads. 57 miles and about 3,200 feet of vertical gain. I'm surprised you got 6,000 feet in in that distance. My average around here is usually around 55 feet per mile.

This was the route we took. The section of Rt. 20 is pretty hilly. https://connect.garmin.com/activity/40739027 It's from my Garmin, so the elevation stats might be a bit off.
Yes, it was windy yesterday. I've gone from Caz to Hamilton before-both on back roads, and on Rt. 20. That is also a great ride.

I'm driving to Rochester this weekend form MA for the Highlander century, anybody here doing that?
Caz is my hometown.
The scenery there is great, but unlike at home now the sun exposure is non-stop. I'm used to riding under tree canopies but of course then you don't have the million dollar views.
However, the elevation gain is the same but it hits you different. Here it is non-stop up and down, where back home in Caz its huge gains, huge descents, and long level sections.

That's pretty down there. I'm usually over to the East a bit--Brookfield, etc., but I'm going to venture West this fall if I get the chance--lots of hills and nice back roads. I kind of lost my enthusiasm for riding Route 20, which is a fantastic highway from a bikng point of view--when that state trooper was killed bicycling on it last year. I really try to keep my rides on back roads which, around here, of course, means lots of climbing. So, I'm learning to love climbing--no choice.

Really nice pics....All of that area are my old stomping grounds, albeit over twenty years ago. Grew up in New Woodstock and then Syracuse until I moved to Colorado in my early teens. I didn't get into riding until literally just before I moved.....so I had no idea there was such great riding there! Thanks again for the great shots!

It's actually one of the smaller Finger Lakes. About 14 miles long, maybe a mile and a half across at it's widest...and about 300' deep. Very clean-the City of Syracuse gets it's water supply from the lake, and they don't treat it (other than chlorine & flouride).

Nice pics. I recognize those views.
Most of my rides are near Cazenovia Lake.

I love Skaneateles. Used to be there a lot for work, but it was before I had a bad bike habit. I have been meaning to go out there for the skinnyman triathlon, but it hasn't worked out for me yet.
