Can you change a tube in a Tubular?
Did a google search but never got a answer to this. I have often heard of people opening up a tubular, patching it up and sowing it back together. Rather then patching, is it possible to change the tube all together.

The best way to repair a tubular is to open the case, replace the tube, and re-sew the thing together. Apparently there are stands and stuff to help you do this without puncturing the new tube with your sew-up needle (tubes and needles don't mix).
However, instead of buying the jig and doing it yourself, you can use a service in Florida that does it for you:

I've used them before but don't remember the outcome (I was part of a "group buy" about 15 years ago). I think 1 out of 15 or so tires wasn't that great (the casing was twisted, i.e. one hole off in restitching the casing) but I think that I used and wore out 2 or 3 other tires I sent them.

I've had tirealert do several for me and for friends. He does not do latex tubes, which is kind of a downer if you've got expensive Vittoria race tires, but he does a nice job and the tires are perfectly serviceable.

Not all tubulars can be repaired Tufo cannot be for sure because how the tube is vulcanized to the outer casing.. Continental and most high end Vittoria can. Don't know bout others. Having said Tufo can last for a while (like 3.7K miles with Stan's or Pit Stop sealant) without needing to be replaced. Use Stans or some sealant and only buy tubulars with removable cores,. They usually mean you can put sealant and they are better quality tires. There are high end tires with latex tubes and those are a different world all together. In my experience I have repaired Continental and Vittoria that have regular butyl tube and just patch the tube. I know if I opened the whole tire that I cannot sew it back properly. The needle to use is a curved leather needle and the way to open the seam is a seam ripper so you do not puncture the tube. On continentals the tube is stouter than their regular inner tube.
