Calling a 'Bike' a 'Build'

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Calling a 'Bike' a 'Build'

I find it annoying that some people call a 'Bicycle' or 'Bike' a 'Build'. Anyone agree?

Nope. I've got too many worries already to even give a second thought to what someone calls a bike.

Are you putting it together? Building it?

I'm on truck, R/C car, Bike, and sports car forums... everyone's latest project is their "current build". Makes sense to me.

I wouldn't call it that, but it makes at least some sense if you collect the parts and build it up yourself.

What I have always heard as well. Maybe the OP has never actually done any work on anything.

How did you deduce that? Couldn't be further from the truth.

Those are usually referred to as "projects" it seems.

if you rounded up the parts and built it yourself, it is a build

if you rolled it past the cashier at walmart, it's a bike

So do you prefer building lugged or filet brazed frames ?

There's a lot in this life to be annoyed about, but I can't seem to work up any annoyance for this.

"kit" basically just means a set of stuff that goes together, has traditionally referred to the whole of what you get from a team, not just for cycling. Uniform, equipment, etc.

It's standard vernacular in this part of the world for either clothing or components.

And 'build' makes perfect sense if you actually assemble a bike yourself, as opposed to buying a complete one.
