Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Specialized Roubaix or Jamis Steel?

I was originally having an internal debate about getting a Specialized Roubaix with either 105 or apex and decided on the 105s, which would run me about $2600. Then I started looking at some Jamis bikes and found a LBS that sells the Jamis Satellite for $2800. Specialized has a better reputation, but Jamis seems like they give more bang for your buck. The Satellite comes with Ultegra components vs. the Specialized 105s, the Satellite is a 17 pound steel frame vs. an entry level carbon frame, and the Satellite comes with American Classic 420 wheel set (roughly $900 alone) vs. Specialized's Fulcrum racing 6 (not sure on the price of the wheel set, but I'm certain its substantially less). On the surface this seems like a no brainer to me, but it seems too good to be true. If anyone has any thoughts it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I think you mean the Eclipse. It looks like a lotta bike.

Anyway, I would ride them and pick the one I like based on that.

Of course, if you shop well and have mechanical skills, you can build up a frameset and get even more bang for the buck. (Neither of those deals sounds like a "deal" to me.)
