Is there a somewhat common occurrence, that a rider crashing gets hit by a protruding steering tube? I've never heard of such a thing, but I've only been riding for 3-4 years. I can see how 4" might be a problem, but what you're looking at is more like 15mm, or 0.6". Also, while it's not a si compression assembly, why would that matter? It doesn't provide a reason why there can't be any spacers on the top, other than the one you stated about the crashing thing.

I really do not like the idea of no spacer on top when I'm cranking 1100w through the bars, realizing of course that pros double this.

SpeshulEd 05-13-16 03:00 PM

With the SI compression assembly, the bottom expand out as you tighten the bolt. If these are expanding out into spacers and not into the stem, err underneath the stem rather, the last thing I'd want to do is crank out 1100 watts while holding onto them.

Upgraded to a full 6800 groupset and hollowgram crank. I got a deal on all the parts and did the work myself. Took it to a reputable shop to check over my work afterwards. The shifter cables needed more tension but I had set it up well over all.

The bike is an absolute joy to ride, smooth as glass. This bike is with me for a long time to come.

Picked up my CAAD12 Ultegra today. The black/gray color looks awesome compared to the website. It also came with a C2 Handlebar but it was spec'd as a C3 on the web. I'm good with that! 15.6 lbs as is on the picture. :thumb:

Now that all the CAAD9s are 6 or more years old, how's the durability been for everyone?

I ask because Cannondale's paperwork with the bike hinted at it being a 2 year kind of frame. And, it's AL, and one can grab the seat stays and flex them in and out by hand. Theoretically such flexing is destroying the AL, as there is no amount which AL can flex without damage. As lightweight as it is, I imagine there is flex on the road too.

I remember way back when that it was said that the CAAD9 was one of the few frames to survive the EFBe test. It is not, however, currently listed in the EFBe database.

I just grabbed a 2009 caad9 off of craigslist for 300$...I don't think the owner rode it more than once. I'll post a pic once I get the dork disk off.

Just picked up a 2013 CAAD10-5. Always admired these frames, and it makes a great stablemate to my endurance frame Lynskey.

Cleaned and tweaked a little, but still needs a fi'zi:k Antares, SpeedAy Zeros, and I'm going to drop the bars another inch and cut the steer tube (installing a spare cane creek 40 I've got).

WOW $300? that's a steal.

what color is it?

as for the durability question, I believe the caad9 is better built than the caad10 or 12's. The frames are 200-300 grams heavier on the caad9, and I think this is accounted for in thicker tubes, which is good. At the races this week, one guy had a caad12. his chain came off, and something happened that caused him to sit on his toptube. his ass put a pretty significant dent in the top tube, to the point where the frame would need replacing. the latest caad tubings have been known to dent, and I don't believe this was an issue with the caad9.

That's a fine looking bike! Pretty light too, what size is it? I had my 60cm Caad10 Black Inc on the scale today and it weighed 16lbs 11oz, not too shabby.

Hello to all CAAD owners,

I am thinking of getting a CAAD12 105, but I have one question that I have found an answer to. I see all of the CAAD 12's have a 25.4mm seatpost.

My question is this, if I were interested in changing it, are 25.4mm seatposts made? If so what are some that are made? Or should i even be concerned with this?

Thanks,
RH

The Cannondale posts are actually quite good so unless you need a different offset I wouldn't worry too much about it from the get go. There are a few options out there like the FSA SL-K and Thomson Elite, I'm sure there's others as well but a quick google search showed those. Thanks to Cannondale opting to use the smaller diameter post on their flagship EVO, Caad12, and Synapse, you can be assured that every post manufacturer has them in the works as we speak.

Well, I think that is all I need to know. :D

Never posted a pic.

56cm CAAD 10, Ultegra, Williams 31 Wheels (25mm Conti's mounted), Power2Max Crank, Zipp Post, 40mm Ergonova Bar/120 ARX II Stem.

Sets up really nice fit wise. From the first ride this bike has exceeded my expectations. Very stable & handles hard accelerations really well. Ride quality is better than I expected coming from carbon frames.

I got a new 25.4 Thomson post off eBay for about $70. I can't stand the adjustment screws on the proprietary Cannondale post, and you can't go wrong with Thomson's.

What is wrong with the screws? As for Thomson, I am with, their stuff really is built like a tank.

therh 05-29-16 08:44 PM

What FSA chainrings are on the CAAD12 105?

They're probably just fine, but it's more difficult to set the seat angle as only one screw is easily accessible with the seat installed. The other has an odd plastic hand-tightener that is a real pain to operate. The Thomson system is just far more precise and intuitive.

Also the FSA chainrings are 52/36.

Get fit at the shop, but I'd ballpark you at 56. Cannondales tend to run a size large. But you won't know until you test ride.

Anyone else have a CAAD 12?

Beatiful bike, great set-up with the Sram Red.
Impressive that those 30C tires fit into the frame!

Did you replace the standard (for 7x7mm rails) seatpost clamp for the saddle? Is the original Cannondale seat post compatible with Tune?
