I have the same frame and I agree it looks great. Just wanted to point out it's not fully matte black since it sounded like igotyofire was really looking for matte black.

The black and yellow one was hideous
The gulf colors are ugly enough to be liked for its ugliness I actually like this for some reason
I call them, "Cannondale's 1 and done" schemes.

They need to bring back the simple colors again. Their team colors are always a winner but then they try to go all fancy with the black/red, blue/white/red, etc...

If you're going to paint it buy a used frame and build up a bike how you want it. Repainting the frame will void the whole warranty. As far as ultegra v sram, personal preference. If I were you, I would get the 3 and save money. Shifting is shifting. Then when you need to replace everything, upgrade to sram.
Gives you motivation to ride at least
But if you can afford the black inc then why not. I settled for a color choice was not fond of and even though it's growing on me, it still has a ways to go.

The 2012 doesn't have the speedsave in the stays right? Can anyone comment if that makes a noticeable difference in the ride?

It does. All CAAD10 model years frames are completely identical, except for paint.
BTW, "speedsave" is just a marketing giberish for small diameter stays. Thin stays are allegedly more comfortable, but everyone makes stays pretty thin these days.

Local shop offered me a deal on a 6800 crank, so obviously I completed the gruppo. Soon I'll change the tape and cut the steerer.

And you Gulf Oil Racing haters need to appreciate the look more, I love mine.

My caad is getting rebuilt soon. Rode it for the first time last week since flipping it a couple months ago. Noticed a few things that I didn't before, such as bent bars, cracked lever body, slightly bent RD, some other stuff too. There's a tiny dent in my top tube as well.
I'm thinking Red 22 and some Thomson carbon.
11 speed also means new wheels.
I'm thinking CK's to Pacenti SL23s. Still going tubeless, gonna try some IRD tires.
