Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Hello, quick question for the CAAD10 guys. I've got a 2013 CAAD10 with the SRAM Rival group. How can I tell if my rear derailleur is a short or medium cage size? I need to get a replacement and haven't been able to figure this out yet. I've got a 50/34 in the front and 11/26 in the back. From the research I have done, a small cage would fit, but I just want to make sure that's what I have or I'm not stepping down from a medium. Any help would be appreciated.

In the future I would like to shoot for a lighter build, This was more of a budget build that ended up costing me about $680 total.
Yeah, I was afraid it would come to around that price. I think for the difference in cost I'll likely wait for a deal on Dura-Ace C24's. ProBikeKit had them on sale for ~$740 I think, but it's just not the right time to go for wheels for me unfortunately.

I built up a set of wheels with Sapim Lasers, Chris King R45 hubs, and BHS C22w rims for ~$700. They weigh ~1440g and I think buying anything else is sort of odd.

Alright CAAD10 experts. I'm looking to install a Ultegra 6700 crank on my 2014 CAAD10 using the Praxis BB Adapter. Has anyone had experience with this? Any trouble? Did it take significant adjustment to the front derailer or to bike fit? I'm sure there are technical terms for all of this but are the pedals basically in the same spot? Thanks!! Looking forward to being part of this group!

It's designed/engineered to fit perfectly and works perfectly on my Evo. Just watch the vid and install. I did not need a BB press too, got the non-drive side started by hand then just tightened the two together.

So apparently I'm not very observant because I just noticed that my 2014 CAAD10 came with a small round hole on the seat tube. It's facing the rear wheel, about front derailleur height. Does anyone know what that's for? Is it just so moisture can evaporate?

Mine is a 2013 and has the hole but facing forward just beneath the bottle cage. It is for internal routing of Di2.

Anyone know what CAAD model/year/value of this bike? I've been looking for a semi older bike to ride for fun.

I went with a set of Tokyo Wheels, hadn't heard of them but a few local guys recommended/ride them and the price was good @ $970 full carbon clincher and right around 1400g.

Sorry in advance for bad pictures!

I had a 1993 R900:

But then a car made an unprotected left turn into a bike lane:

But then, craigslist happened!

Haven't changed anything yet from how the seller had it set up. It's more or less stock, but has Mavic Open Pros with Ultegra hubs and a saddle that I'll probably wind up changing. Switched out his SPDs for Frogs, too (I commute; need a walkable shoe). The tires are mismatched; one is a Vittoria Rubino Pro Slick and the other is a Mavic tire of some kind. I might ride them both until they need replacing, but I've also got a pair of Michelin Pro3 Race slicks that might look good on the bike (not really sure).

Next up: #slamthatstem , brakepad replacements, blah blah blah.

Anyway, this feels just a little lighter than my old bike, but it's way more responsive, much softer, and feels like it transfers power better than my old R900—and I haven't even properly set everything up yet.

Still waiting on new bar tape, I reused my old rolls so it looks jank and is way short. I also need to finish sanding the fork. It's a SuperSix Evo fork and I saved 140g with it, not too shabby.

LOL I only have one bike at a time. It's too hard having more than one at a time. I was almost going to buy another CAAD frame to build up with Campy Chorus from my old blue bike, but then I realized how much money they would run.

Mostly, no brain damage and no fractures. Screwed up some muscles (I think/hope) around my thoracic spine that I'm in physical therapy for and got some stitches in my chin, but it could have been a lot worse. Shame the bike won't get better, though .

Dudemanppl,

Nice clean bike. How do you like veloflex tires? I read that they have no puncture shield. Thinking of getting some for my training wheels.

I mounted a 25mm pair of Veloflex Open Tubulars (Clinchers) on some FFwd F4Rc I just bought for racing. The 25mm Veloflex tyres are basically the same size as Conti GP4000s in 23mm, when fitted.

The Veloflex tyres themselves are fantastic - smooth, comfortable, highly grippy and quick RACE tyres. I've done around 350Km on mine and they do have a few small nicks in the tread surface from stones / glass etc. IMO - definitely NOT a training tyre, as they will wear too quickly and do not offer a whole lot of puncture protection.

As raceday tyres - woohooo!!! But, there are other tyres that are better to train on.

cheers

I don't get flats ever. But I weigh 130 when I'm fat, so I don't know if my opinion counts at all. The 25mm Masters I have measured only 25mm on a 24mm wide rim, the old Vittoria Open Corsa SC 23mms ran the same width. I'm moving over to Open Corsa SC 25mms after these are done. Both of them are 60 per set on Ribble. I did a gravel grind on them and they came out fine. Ride quality is fine, but I run 65/70 so again, I don't think my opinion counts.
