Need new wheel
I cross about 5 sets of railroad tracks when I bike to work, and one day about 1-1.5 months back I hit one too fast, and in a bad spot that had a pole just the other side of it. Popped rear tube, ruptured sidewall, and dented rim, braking surface dented in a bit. I figure I've been running on borrowed time since, but my LBS mech didn't seem too worried *shrug*
Blew a spoke near the dent on rim on yesterday's century, probably not trusting this wheel much longer. Rode about 80 miles, climbed/descended 6 mountains, on that massively out of true wheel.
Easton EA50's. Were real cheap, IIRC a 1700ish gr wheelset. Been a good enough performer, but I wouldn't mind stepping up to a notch in wheelset performance/quality, maybe 1500gr-ish, but wouldn't really want to sacrifice much strength.
FWIW, I weigh ~160 now. I tend to get thick over the summer, riding, drinking beer, I typically slim down into the mid-140's over the winter running and going through Marathon/HM season.
I really only need a rear wheel, that would save some dough for now... Don't see many around being sold separately... But then I'd have mis-matched wheels... oh the vanity!
I've got Ritchey WCS bar/stem... could move toward a total matching homogeneous control group... but $450 for rear alone, and not impressively light...

Shimano Wheels, $650, seem on the heavy side compared to the Easton EA50's for the price =/

Reynolds Solitudes
$500, 1512gr wheelset, seems like an unbelievable deal...?

Pushing budget, but Mavic Ksyriums seem popular...

Easton EA90, $580, I know Performance swung some deal and they aren't true EA90's, cheapened somehow. Users reporting ~1600gr wheel set, still ought to be good enough for me...?

Opinions? Quality/strength input? other ideas?

Why not get a hand built from Colorado ?. Mavic CXP-33,36 spoke, DT 14/15 double butted on an Ultegra hub. $200.
It'll likely last forever as CC stress relieves there wheels. I'm a heavy rider and have over 3000 miles on that exact R wheel that I've touched up trued once.
Add $170 for a 32 spoke front. so less then $400 shipped
