2009?
Giant Defy Advance 2 -> https://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-us/...ad/2264/32186/
So here I am, just dreaming away coming home from work. Then suddenly, it struck me! There is an LBS nearby my bro' in-law's house which is on the way. So I stopped by and checked out the merchandise. All they carry are Giants, Diamondbacks, Raleighs, and GT's. I went to the "road" side of the store and found a bunch of Giants. Talked to the store owner and had a conversation about what I was looking into. He said that it's best to go for something "old but new" as opposed to "brand new". Sure there maybe changes but far and few between... I asked how much he is selling this Giant and his price is $2,300 - can't remember if that is out the door, but it includes lifetime tune up and a higher cassette to make it easier for the legs. He is willing to go with these mtb cassettes - SRAM PG-1050 11-32. Or even 11-34, but with a slight price difference. We didn't get into too much details, but even with the Compact 50-34, I know it will require mtb RD's whether it's 11-32 or 11-34. He is willing to extend the offer until the weekend. Oh how I wish it's already Christmas and that I've been good enough for Santa to give me this road bike... or any road bike.
I sat on the bike and "according to him", the medium is a "perfect fit"... just raise the saddle and do some minor adjustments. However, I feel a bit stretched out and he said it's a racy geometry with a bit of comfort. He doesn't have the fitting machine, but based on instict and knowledge, he can get me going on the best fit possible. Hmmm... I do know already that the saddle needs to be changed.
The question is, if I can somehow convince the wife, should I go with this bike plus his offer? Granted "the fitting" gets resolved. Is $2,300 too much for this roadie? Maybe I can sweet talk him to go XTR RD with 11-34 cassette combo with that compact crank at $2,300 + tax. Any of you own or have ridden this bike or just a Giant in general? Does he know what he's talkin' 'bout? If the same offer is given come Christmas time, or even cheaper, am I better off with an "older new" bike or should I stick with one of the original 5 2010/2011's (Madone 5.2, Felt Z4, Roubaix, Cervelo RS, Bianchi Infinito). I know there are too many questions, but I just need your knowledge so I know what I'm getting into whether I go one route or the other.
