Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

can anyone here beat this time?

was watching the Kona Ironman today and learned Chrissie Wellington had best female bike split ever @ 4:36:33 ... Thats an amazing time for a 112 mile ride with no drafting

I know I cant do that well, and would of been chicked for sure had i gone up against her.

so how many here can beat her at that distance?

I have a feeling 99% of the 41 cant do it

but it would be cool if someone had a garmin link or similar proving they can

regardless of who can beat it, I doubt much of the 41 could even come close after swimming 2.5 miles prior, let alone pull off the 2.5 hr marathon after it that she ran.

Last spring, I did a 100k charity ride and averaged 2 mph faster than I've ever done before or since. My best guess is that I actually had a tailwind both ways, though it wasn't apparent at the time.

The moral being, that you can't take some particular event and ask "can you do that" in a meaningful way. It'd make more sense to look at her average time over several events.

And just for reference, I know a number of female recreational riders that can ride circles around me.

Point me towards a relatively straight, 112 mile downhill road and I'll crush that time.

If I recall correctly, last year Chrissie had a better bike split than a fair number of the pro men. Too bad she pulled out this year. She's quite incredible.

I can beat Chrissie's time...at fixing a flat!

Actually, she rocks...I love watching her compete.
This was a great show of sportsmanship in 2008.
