How do I clean my handlebars after taking old tape off??

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

How do I clean my handlebars after taking old tape off??

Just removed the bar tape that my Felt came with and it's very sticky from the gel inserts and tape. Anyone have any ideas on how to get my bars clean now because I've tried a bunch of cleaners and just water but nothing's working so far?

WD-40 is better as it is not a solvent such as acetone and Goo Gone - get solvent on most plastic and you will have a problem.

Don't worry about. Just consider it a pre-treatment for the next taping.

Tried acetone(nail polish remover) and that didn't work. I'll try WD-40 next as that seems like the next best option.

My bars look brand new after taking the old tape off. Probably because I use non-adhesive bar tape

Otherwise, it's not worth worrying about it unless it gets so gunky that it actually has a contour to it.

3m Paint & Pinstripe prep cleaner, comes in 1L cans for about $10, it will take anything off including some crappy spray paints. Warning it will also bleach cloths and absolutely suck every drop of oil out of your hands.

Goo Gone works really well. Leave it on for like 10 minutes and then wipe with a damp rag.

Xylene. It dissolves synthetic adhesives like nobody's business. It's very cheap and available at Home Depot or the like. I'm not sure I would use it on carbon, though..

After you are content with cleaning off the bars, the next time you wrap them up with bar tape that has adhesive backing, pat down your bars with some talcum powder before application to prevent full adhesion of the sticky tape to the bars. With this method, you'll have less or none of that adhesive to clean up.

and the best stuff to use is some goo gone, unless you like leaving a film of oil from WD-40.

Baby oil will take the sticky feel off.
Then go with one of the cleaners mentioned.
