Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

2004 Gainesville Cycling Festival

Anyone planning on riding the Santa Fe Century, Horse Farm Hundred, or any of the other rides?

I'm guessing Florida??

Either way, I'll be in North Carolina that weekend!

Sounds like a good time. Would've been cool to revist some old stomping grounds!

UF Alumni, BCN '93!

For those out of towners thinking of attending the festival. A MUST DO in Gainesville is to eat at Burrito Bros. Little Mexican take-out on the corner of 13th Street and University. Great Food. I miss it! I want a Primo Dinner with the Burrito Double-wrapped with onions AND peppers!

I'm hungry just thinking about it. And I just ate lunch!

eh, I'll bug ya about that next month.

I set a new goal for myself... a century in every state, only have CO & UT at the moment. Perhaps bag FL at T-giving?

The Cycling Fest is hosted by the Gainesville Cycling Club. Their webpage is pretty pathetic and difficult to navigate but it does have a calendar, map, and registration forms for all the rides. https://gainesvillecyclingclub.org/

Wow I wasn't aware of a Gainesville Cycling Fest. Too busy this month already but I'd like to make it up there next time around.

I can't make it this year, but I've done these rides in the past. It's not the most well supported ride there is, but the ride itself is over beautiful horse farm country. The roads are also lightly travelled. Make sure you bring along some extra apples for the horses!
