Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

A few basic questions.

Which shifts better when riding a trainer, SRAM or Shimano? Also, what kind of average speed should I try to maintain while on my trainer? I plan on riding it at least 20 minutes two or three times a week for the next few months, will I be able to win cat 2 races next Spring?

I have never raced but I think I am pretty strong so I will just start as a cat 2 so I don't get bored. I have been riding for almost a month now and I have watched several races and it doesn't really look all that hard.

I'm allowed to have fun too, plus if it gets out of hand I won't get upset when I delete it.

Feel free to ask the admins if you aren't happy about it.

I am neither happy nor unhappy.

I am asking this because others have been given infractions and had their threads locked, deleted or moved for doing exactly what you are doing.

Personally, I am in favor of this thread, but I would prefer if all of you guys just lightened the eff up and allowed some expression in here.

Believe it or not I actually try to keep a pretty good attitude and let things slide for the most part. I am generally not easily excited about things and try to talk to people through pm before giving infractions. I don't like to give them but sometimes they are necessary.

With that said, I am far from perfect and will make mistakes and sometimes make bad decisions. Ask gsteinb about this. I moved one of his threads a while back and after a short discussion with him I moved his thread back and publicly admitted that I was wrong. I have no problem admitting when I screw up, after all, I have had plenty of practice.

Oh, as for the starting as cat 2 thing I mentioned it is actually something that someone said to me a few days ago. I mentioned that if I get back into shape I may try to enter a few cat 3 races next year just to give me some motivation. A guy that I was riding with (that is stronger than me) said that he will probably do a few cat 3's as well. He raced mtb's a few years ago so he doesn't feel that he should have to start out as a cat 5.

that's great, but it really doesn't address the issue of why other threads have been locked, deleted etc. other members banned, warned, etc for doing things that, for folks with less "notoriety", would not result in the same treatment.

Very well, I'll lock this one to avoid future conflict. Sorry I started it.
