Which wheel would you buy?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Which wheel would you buy?

Hey guys I'm seriously pondering upgrading my Aksiums for a new set of aero wheels. The terrain I ride varies from flat to a few rollers and the occasional big climb. I average 20+mph on the flats provided there is no headwind.

These are the two wheels that I'm considering.

Any opinions are welcome.

I don't know much about those wheels, but 85mm is pretty deep. Once you get past a certain depth, the aerodynamic gains are minimal (similar to the economic concept of diminishing returns, I think).

If you want aero wheels, I think I'd stick with the 50mm rims. 85/50 wheels are more for time trials. You may find wheels that deep difficult in a crosswind.

i'd shy away from buying no-name wheels for that much coin unless you read some consistently good reviews on them. you want to be sure the hubs are at least decent and that they can be repaired with relatively easily sourced parts.

OP... look into the Reynolds Attacks or Assaults(more aero) for a little more coin but a good track record. You should be able to find either for under $1000 if you're patient.

Have a friend that rides planet x and no complaints (82/101 tubulars).

They have a 50 clincher: https://www.planet-x-usa.com/pPC50CL/...-Wheelset.aspx at a decent price.
