Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Which frame: 2008 Specialized Roubaix Pro vs Kestrel rt800 sl

Looking at two frames

2008 Specialized Rou ix Pro frameset - Size 54
$775

Kestrel RT 800 SL - 53cm
$900 (frame set, inclu fork and seat post)

I think both would work size wise. I am curious what your opinions are on prices, quality, ride, etc

I currently ride a 2010 RT800SL and I am very happy with it. It rides as nice as any other carbon bike I have had, the quality is top notch. Kestrel has been doing carbon for a while (first to make full carbon bikes actually) so they do know what they are doing. Unfortunately I have never ridden the Roubaix so I can't compare.

Looks awesome! (I'm secretly leaning towards that frame). What size are you riding, what height/inseam are you, how does it fit? (I know fitting gets more extensive than that, just looking for a general idea)

I ride a 55 cm and I am 5' 10.5" with a pants inseam of 32", and an actual inseam of 82 cm. I am very happy with the fit.

I ride a 2009 Kestrel rt800 and have nothing but praise for the bike. As LowCell said....their carbon experience is strong. I can only speak for Kestrel.....but wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

The Kestrel certainly add some unique flair with its integrated post clamp, aero post, and internal cables.
It looks good with the matching green tires, although those may be hard to find for it (not that it needs them).

What is the new/used status of each?

The kestrel is brand new, still in packaging.
The specialized is used - 08

Neither have damage that I am aware of.

things that say buy the kestrel: no shipping, local, and will have help transferring components
things that say buy specialized: 53cm(the kestrel) is right at the bottom of the size range that will fit me. ... but, the top tube is 54
