crank brothers candy pedals
would i be stupid for putting these on a road bike? i have them on my cross bike, and would prefer not to have to have 2 pairs of shoes if i want to kick my cross bike around town or to a restaurant downtown versus my more aggressive road bike.
I am also curious if there would be a reason i shouldn't use these pedals if i were to get into some cat 5 races this upcomming season? The only thing i could think of is a higher profile if i were to do crit races. At the end of this season (i have to space out expenses on the bike) I would like to get a set of road shoes after my MTN shoes have another cross season, they will be relegated to cross bike only, and i will get some speedplays for new road shoes.

I have them on my road bike. I like them. I'm a non-racing Fredly type, though.

Go ahead, they make perfectly good pedals for road cycling in my experience. I'm assuming you mean the ones with a small platform, not the pure eggbeaters, although they might be OK too, I've never tried.

Stick with the Candy pedals. I'm slowly converting my fleet of bikes to Candy's exclusively. I still have a few sets of Eggbeaters and Quattros kicking around, though. They work great with road or mountain shoes, have excellent mud/dirt clearance, and are rebuildable. I used Speedplay X road pedals for a while, but then switched to Crank Brothers pedals all around because I hated replacing my $40 cleats every 2000 miles and that I couldn't clip in if there was any dirt on the cleats.
I usually clip my shoe on the ground before my pedal with MTB shoes and Candy pedals. With road shoes, the pedal hits first. The cornering clearance is pretty good, though.

Thanks a bunch guys!!!
This one made me laugh
I think i'll give them a try. I really prefer the MTB shoes because usually my routes have a stop in them (when riding with my wife). And i don't believe in their aero disadvantages being enough to deter me.

If you are faster than the pack, they will all start using them.

I use them road and mtb commuter. Nothing particularly special about them they were just offered at a really good price as a combo/shoe purchase so I bought a second set off ebay cheap. No plans to change unless someone can prove to me that different pedals are better.

I have regular crank brothers on my road bike and I am not a real fast race type but I suppose I can ride sub 5 hr century with no problem. I like these 4 sided entry and not heavy and I can walk around.

I think I will have to switch to Candy pedals when I can no longer get Quattros for my road bikes. Makes it so much more convenient to wear any of 3 pairs of bike shoes to ride any of 3 bikes!

Bike ≠ Car ≠ Ped.
If you want to use road shoes with them, get the three-hole cleats:

They worked for me with Candy pedals.
