A happy Special(ized) birthday/christmas present to me!

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I wonder why the SL3 Roubaix has interior cable routing but the Tarmac doesn't?

SL3 Tarmac came out for 2010 -- before Specialized did interior routing. SL3 Roubaix is new for 2011 -- after.

Tarmac is a super lightweight, full out racing bike. Few of these have internal cable routing.
Specialized Tarmac
Cervelo R series
Felt F1
Scott R1
Cannondale Supersix
probably many others

Internal cable routing is a marketing/TT thing, not a roadie thing. There is probably some downside, weight, stiffness, etc. but I really don't know, it's simple just not done on Tour quality frames.

edit:
Forgot Giant ! that Rabobank rode, had to go look it up. TCR Advanced SL, even the 2011 model. External routing.

Felt F1 and F2 both say "Di2 Internal Cable Routing"

Cervelo S3 is a Tour-level frame - it has internal cable routing

Pinarello Prince and Dogma appear to have internal cable routing on quick glance

BMC has more than one internal-cable frame model ridden at the ProTour level

Focus Izalco - I see some internally routed cables.

Look 695 - more internal cables
