What to buy myself for Christmas
I can't make up my mind if I want a new CF bike like the Trek Madone 5.2 or something simular with Ultegra components. Or I could outfit my current Specialized Tricross with some tasty hand built wheels.
My current setup is 54cm with aluminum and carbon mixture. Gears are 48-34 chainring with 12-27 cassette. It weighs 24lbs with saddle bag.

I'd ask Santa for a new bike with hand build wheels . You'll still have the old bike to boot.

Well, based on what you wrote above... you only have one bike. Answer is simple.

I'm looking at the following:
- Psimet wheels - carbon?
- Quarq PM to replace my PT
- 4 months of Carmichael Training Center for winter workouts - on my way to work - perhaps more engaging than riding my trainer at home
- New bibs - Assos Unos?
- Sidi Ergo 2 shoes
- GP 4000's for winter riding and trainer

The problem with handbuilt wheels for me is that I don't want to buy another PT setup. Therefore, since I'm addicted to power, I need to find another power meter other than PowerTap in addition to buying a nice set of wheels. Quarq maybe? And as for wheels, I really don't know what I want. I already have some old Mavic Ksyriums that I haven't used for over a year (due to always riding my PT wheel - PT SL+ attached to DT Swiss RR 465 rim). For some reason I feel I can do better than the Ksyriums, but I don't have any info to back up that statement. I'll likely see the Ksyriums, but I'm keeping them for now as backups.

custom, for my style of riding, hand built wheels with cartridge bearings will start at $1000. My thinking was to get the wheels and put them on my current bike setup while saving money for the carbon road bike. then after purchasing the CF bike I could put the custom wheels on the new bike.
