Garmin Edge 500 owners: still bugs?
From the threads I've read on BF re: the Edge 500 it seems a bunch of early adopters complained about loss of data during download as well as other issues.
I'm going to upgrade from the Edge 305 soon and am considering a used 705 over a new 500 due to the stated 500 complaints.
Any recent Edge 500 purchasers out there who can chime in on unit stability, especially with powertap?
Thanks

I got my 500 back in July and I have had no issues with it whatsoever. Just a great computer. Also have had a couple firmware updates from Garmin over the course of that time, so I would think the bugs from old versions would be fixed.

I've had mine since May of this year. I use it with three bikes and two different Powertaps. No issues with data loss whatsoever. Best computer I've ever used, hands down.
My only complaints are little ones, and not really bugs -- too many button presses to switch bikes, and too many button presses to shut the GPS off and turn the backlight on for indoor use.

I had the problem with the data file not saving - there was a firmware release a few months ago which seems to have solved the problem. Been working flawlessly since.

Ditto (well, except since August).
I've been writing up an article comparing it to the ForeRunner 310XT I was using before, and the best benefit: mondo storage. I've got about 45 hours of rides stored on it so far, and it's only using about 6.5 MB out of it's 54 MB of storage. No more hauling a laptop around on week-long trips!

I hope not. I just ordered one for a birthday/xmas present. Great deal on Performancebike today. $199 and I used a 20% off coupon so $159.99. I'll buy the cadence/HR strap separate.

no problems what so ever. i have to agree though, it could use some short cuts on many functions.

Yeah mine changed my cycling life. Love the cadence and heartrate. It was something like $200 delivered from PBK about six months ago during one of their sales.
Has an issue with temp not reporting when I used Garmin Training Center and uploaded to Garmin Connect. Simple fix - just upload directly to Garmin Connect and the temp is in there just fine.
I have found that the elevation is pretty accurate - my normal rides of 1-2 hours are within 100 feet of each other from one day to another. The temp is worthless- +/- 20 degrees! Hah!
Highly recommend this device.

Bought mine a few months ago to replace a three year old Garmin 705. Came with the newest firmware. Been using it daily with a PT and an old Garmin HR monitor (that I think I got with my 305). No problems.

10 months use - no issues. Big improvement over the 305.

This happened to me as well. Everything would work fine until I got home and tried to upload the data files. I lost the data from three rides because of this. I wiped all the data, reloaded the newest firmware and it hasn't happened since (knock on wood). I'm much happier with my 500 than my 305. Overall it seems much snappier and more accurate.

I have had only two issues with the Edge 500 that I had before I upgraded to the 800 - the speed reading showing I am going over 100 MPH at 2 points during my ride (happened only twice in cloudy weather), and it shutting off when following one of the courses (also happened only twice, and on the same course, so it could be related to the course file itself). Other than that I haven't had any issues.

Been using mine since the first of 2010. No problems. However, I don't use powertap.
