I am totally new to road bikes. I want to pick up this bike I found on craigslist but I am wondering if I will run into any problems with it? Are they known to be reliable? parts easy to find? I am not going to convert it to a fixie. He's asking 230 for it. My goals are to bike around town and sometimes do 20-30 mile trips.

Yeah, You should keep your eyes open for a better deal. You should easily be able to find one for half of that.

Cool. I was going to offer 200, take it or leave it. It's the unfortunate thing about SoCal, everything is overpriced, especially with fixies being the hot thing now. I just want get some exercise.

people ask crazy prices for Schwinns and other old stuff ever since shows like American pickers started airing. It's very annoying.

Looks like a 1987 Corbier which is the cheapest Peugeot racing bike from that era. Probably didn't cost $230 new. The nasty seat post and bracket is a give away for its cheapness, and at 28lbs it's no light weight. Brakes are probably rubbish, and on steel rims it will be a death trap in the rain. Looks tidy enough though.

That's a pretty bike as it stands right now. Why not let someone who wants a cool looking 'classic' bike buy that one, and you find something less stylish?

nope. Thats why I came on here. I'm 5'11 180lbs, from some charts I've seen online it says to go with a 58cm, which that one is. Thats as far I know about fit.

I'm 6'3" and ride a 58. Of course different bikes fit differently but you might want to give it a ride first and make sure it fits.

Well you guys have given me some good advice.

I was looking at that one because it looks clean and taken cared of. I went to look at a Schwinn Varsity and found it to be a total piece of crap, it was described as "nice reliable bike". What would you recommend I look at that is under $200?

That's not a classic bike. It's a 1987 beater. You'd be better off spending your money on a 2010 beater from BD. If it were a classic 501 Peaugot then it's a different story, but it's not so don't waste your money.

Unless your inseam is at least 33", a 58 should be too tall for you.

ah ok, I'll still try it out anyway.

Do you guys think $200 is too restrictive? I suppose I could spend up to 300. Basically I want a quality used bike. Is weight going to be a major factor? I think whatever I end up getting its going to be heavy anyway because of the amount i'm spending.

Maybe, but you can sometimes find diamonds in the rough if you look hard enough. You might want to post what you find to classic and vintage, though. Lots more collective knowledge of older stuff in general.
