Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Correct size for a Rivendell Bleriot?

Hi,

I have a chance to buy a beautiful Rivendell Bleriot at a great price. The problem is that the size is listed at 55 CM and according to the Rivendell site I should get a bike sized at 60 CM. My PBH is 33 1/2 inches or 85 CM. The owner of the Rivendell says the bike feels more like a 57 CM and will fit someone who rides a 57. I am wondering if I could adjust the bike to make it work for me since the price and opportunity are so attractive. Looking for advice. Thanks

Email Rivendell. On this topic, you'll get nothing but bad information and bad comedy here.

My experience

I used Riv's geo chart as a starting point. According to Riv's chart, I should be on 59 Bleriot. I went with a 57 to keep the TT on the shorter side, and it fits like a glove. Riv's ST measurements are based on low BB drop and a "fist full of seapost" showing. So, you need to use the chart as a guide and then deviate from it to replicate your preferred riding position. There is a fair degree of adjustability, but realize that Riv's sizing is designed to put you in a more upright riding position with the saddle low relative to the TT and the bars high relative to the saddle. Good luck.

Huge difference between a 55CM and a 60CM.

No matter how awesome the price is, you shouldn't pay for a bike that might not fit.
