Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'm telling you all. Lightning Cranks are the cat's meow. 577g w/ rings, and Zipp BB. Stiff as my Red cranks as far as I can tell. Price isn't too bad either.

Also I got some new cycling shoes today. Dropped 90g per shoe.

I'm a firm believer in the lighter your feet are the faster you can move them. It might all be in my head but it feels like light road shoes make a difference. I was considering some Bont's just for that reason.

Yeah, I really wanted some Bont Zeros, but instead I cheeped out, and I got Bontrager RL's. I got them for $100 after $80 off for the Trek days sales event last week. They are really comfy, and pretty light.

I posted this in Hor R Not, but I figured it is relevant here too.

Got a small update on the Cervelo. New bars. This resulted in a gain of 66g, bringing it up to 13.44lbs. I would say it is more aero now, and I like the feel of the bars a lot. They flex a little more than my old Syntace bars, but not bad. I really like the look of them, they match the bike well I think.

This enabled me to return my Syntace bars to my beater bike, for a savings of 151g off of the bars that were on it. Bringing it down to 15.78lbs as pictured. If I put the Zipps on it, it would be sub 15, I am sure. This made this bike ride a bit better, and obviously dropped a good bit of mass. I think it's a pretty good looking beater, what do you guys think?

What about Mavic D'Huez? I like the weight but I'm not sure how comfy they'd be

no it will not fit. the stem is for 26.0mm bars and the bars are 31.8 at the point where the stem clamps.

soloist assassin the new bars do look good and i dont think i would care to much about adding a few grams if it improved comfort. the Trek is looking really good as well. nicely done.

in response to the inquiry about the Force cranks. i got a chance to try them out today and they are definitely stiff and the power transfer is also great. the biggest difference though was in how easily they were to spin. i dont know if thats because of the lighter weight or from better lubed bearings but i was spinning a higher gear in than normally in the same areas. when sprinting and climbing they are as stiff as you could ask for.thats normally not a problem for me at 120lb but i could tell a differnce. im really happy with the cranks and dont regret buying them thats for sure.

i didnt get a chance to weigh the cranks today since we were so busy at work but i did get a chance to weigh the bike and was happy to find out i made it bellow 16lb now. the bike came in at 15.8lb with one bottle cage and computer (i also havent cut the 3T seatpost either and its really long). originally <16lb was my goal so i have made that now but even though i said i was done with the Fuji after new bars im tempted to see if i can make it to sub 15lb. with new wheels in the 1000-1200g range and a new fork i would make it bellow 15lb for sure and likely closer to 14lb. so i guess the diet will likely continue lol. i was planning to order bars tomorrow but might look at forks instead since i likely have more weight to save there.

so what do you guys think? should i throw on a new set of bars and be happy with mid 15lb bike or take it a little further and go bellow 15? (probably a dumb question)

what length do you need? what do you want to spend? i think the 3T stem i just bought should be right at 100g for 100mm. deda also has a light stem and so do many others.

my old Fuji brand stem weighed 150g so i didnt save as much as i thought i would there.

i think those fsa bars look great on the cervelo.

I finally replaced some stuff on my bike and knocked off nearly a pound and a half. its currently weighing 15.92lbs which i think is pretty good for a bike with a powertap! (1750g wheelset)

I replaced some bontrager stem with a ritchey 4axis, ritchey classic bars with wsc curve, thomson elite post with thomson masterpiece, zipps skewers with kcnc, and some horribly ****ty vittoria slick tires with 25m ultremos with lunar light tubes.

I still need to swap out my old arione saddle with something else and i want to do something with my speedplay x pedals, probably just swap the spindles, so im hoping to get to around 15.5 without doing anything to crazy.

ill post pictures and weights for the parts replaced later.

My RavX stem is only 125g so its only 25g of a difference, but it is 110mm and I need a 100mm truly....I tried compromising my fit by sliding the saddle a little forward, but it didnt really help as much as I thought.

Funny thing is I was looking at stems earlier today (trying to get my 66g back), and it seemed like a good deal. There are allot of $225-250 stems out there, that are 25-50g heavier. It's all relative. If only they made the AX Lightness Zeus in 130 31.8, but it's like a $900 68g stem lol. Who buys that?

Fairwheel Bikes sells a New Ultimate stem 107g for a 100m 31.8mm for $100. That seems like a bargain. They even have some in stock too.

Planet X has a 103g stem for around $100., I think Forte might have something similar.
I think, not 100% sure, but I think KCNC might have one also as well.
100g stems around the $100. range seem to be popping up all over the place now in aluminum.

I don't think I would've have gotten a $300. range stem EVER even though I loved it.
But, I happen to get my carbon stem for only $125./out the door brand new.
(Bontrager's Race XXX Lite OS which is essentially a re-branded Zipp.)

So I'm trying to reel my 66g back in from the handle bar installation. I just measured my stem top cap at 11g with alloy bolt. A Parts of Passion carbon setup weighs 4g, so there is 7g back, then if I cut the steerer, and drop the spacer I'll drop another 4-6g. If I am going to order that, I think I might as well get some KCNC derailleur pulleys. Not sure what stock ones weigh, but the KCNCs are 8g per.

Btw, Syntace does make a 31.8 stem. Not sure of the model off the top of my head. Also I got my Alpha Q stem for $20 shipped. It's 119 grams I believe but that is for a 120mm. If you can use a 100mm it would probably be a lot lighter.

What handle bars would you guys recommend that is comfortable and light in weight . Preferable something with internal cable routing and doesn't flex(or as much). Do list the price too. Since I haven't really decide on how much I would want to spend on bars yet.

Quick questions about BB30 bottom brackets, does it matter what BB I get for the force crank or I should just stick with the Force BB30? If yes, what would you guys recommend?
