Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Deathgrip TCSL Ti (specially made taller clamp for carbon frames).

it has a taller collar height 14mm. And is more beefy at only one gram more. 11g claimed.

Sadly I couldn't find any online for sale yet. Their Woodman Post EL (carbon and Al) all ship with a machined aluminum cradle now so actual weights are 10g more than previous weights. I guess people were breaking their old carbon cradles. Plus the post and clamp seem to be really strong & beefy as is.

I'm happy with the weights so far though. 132g for my 31.6 Woodman EL Post and 10g for the Deathgrip SL Ti Seatclamp (34.9).
How are you liking your seat post and clamps? Did it give you any trouble like slipping and etc? I also need a 31.6 size post, what size clamp do I need? 31.8 or 34.9?

deathgrip is the operative word. its really strong. the seatpost is machined with ridges so there's no slip. you have to measure your old seatclamp (usually there's a small label on it) from the inside diameter. it really doesn't have to do with the size of the seatpost but what the clamp is clamping around. my old trek had a 34.9/35 diameter seatclamp and a 27.2 seatpost, but this van dessel is still 34.9 seatclamp and 31.6 seatpost.

Ended up needing a set back seat post for the Specialized. Fished around for a bit, and finally ended up with this:

Nope - might take some later after I clean the bike up. I abused it pretty good this weekend. I've got some heavier parts on it at the moment. My Rol training wheels, with normal tubes and heavy high mile tires, plus I have one of my Selle Flites on it at the moment. I do have a lighter carbon saddle laying around that I might put on it. Still, the bike is in the 15 pound range.

I'd try Ebay before you paid Fairwheel's clipjoint prices.

most likely. but sometimes its just better to get something with a taller collar height (the usual thicker 25g seatclamps).

carbon on carbon is tricky... and finicky... sometimes its a nice tight fit with no issues, and other times you have to carbo-paste it...

I've had bad luck with these types of clamps:

but so far the woodman (and probably the kcnc which looks the same) deathgrip has really lived up to its namesake.

I broke one of those too. Just for no reason one day, half of it just snapped. They call that junk where I come from.

So you're saying that I should use paste on the clamp itself? I've heard of using paste on the post, but not the clamp. But, I could be wrong.

Once I test ride a Sram group bike, I'll decide on my components. That's when I'll start dropping those weights on my bike like everyone here.

Who thinks I'm weird if I go for a gold clamp, gold KCNC C7 brakes, and a Gold KMC chain?

If anyone is looking for a cheap well built bike....check out the Rossetti bikes. Always been a fan and rode one today. A Murcielago w/ SRAM Red and 60mm Clinchers came up to 15.5 lb with Speedplay SS Pedals.

^no no... i meant carbon seat post inside a carbon frame. sometimes its nice and tight and won't budge... but sometimes the carbon is so smooth and needs carbo-paste.

but if you're talking about a carbon seatclamp on a carbon frame... I don't have any experience with that.

lol, looks like we're misunderstanding each other. What I meant was, is it alright to use the woodman deathgrip clamp on my carbon frame because it's aluminum? I've read before that you're not suppose to use aluminum with carbon because the carbon can weld itself onto the aluminum.

And my other question was, how good is that clamp on a carbon frame and will it work well?

i think gold looks good (depends on what the bike is). i thought about using some gold on mine actually. i guess i have with the gold chain and the springs on the pedals but i thought about adding just a little more here or there. i just couldnt figure out where it would look good. maybe ill do gold when i tune the RD or even gold housings

Well, here's an old, crude photoshop of how my bike would look like with gold in it. Just imagine a gold chain and seat clamp. Minus the blue seat post. Might change my bar tape to black.

i like gold in very small quantities.

chainring bolts
chain
skewers
seatpost collar
random bolts

things like hubs, seatposts, and brakes just seem like too much.

i agree.

MNX1024. i think you should go with blue brakes for sure. planet x makes a nice, light, cheap set in blue. the chain yeah sure and maybe even the seatpost collar. i think if you go with gold though you should get rid of any white. so black/blue/gold (in small places)

I actually want blue brakes in the beginning. Too bad that KCNC don't make their C7 in blue. Thought of planet X too, but it's like 40g heavier, lol.

My other option is either black or silver. Since I'm planning to go black on my bar tape, having black on my brakes make my bike too emo. As for silver, don't really like their shade.

I'm also planning to swap out the brake pads for swiss stop green. Should I be getting the pads only or holder + pad? Thing is, not sure if they're compatible with the KCNC C7. Anyone able to confirm that for me?

Yellows fit, they weigh 12g more than the KCNC pads too.
