Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Is this a good deal?

Been looking on craigslist for awhile now for a new roadbike. Believe it or not have put over 500 miles on a Kent GMC Denali and completed a sprint tri with it. I really enjoy it and want to upgrade. SO....

2007 Trek 1000 SL with only 200 miles on it for $400. Any thoughts? Seems like a good deal to me. May pick it up tomorrow. Let me know what ya think.

If it looks like it is in good condition (no scratches to the pain), etc, then go for it. Given that that bike retailed at 600-700 you'd be getting a good upgrade from what you're used to. I started out on a Trek 1000 (after my initial starter bike) and rode it for a year before out growing it. I still could have ridden it longer as well.

The good news with the Trek 1000 is that it won't lose much value over the next 3-4 years. Plenty of time to ride it, recoup a good portion of your investment, then upgrade.

What are the chances that the 2007 Trek 1000 SL is a 50cm sized bike? I know someone who is selling the exact same thing right now. You don't happen to be in the Chicagoland area are you?

Chicago craigslist ftw! I picked up a used caad9 in my size for $500. SRAM rival/force mix.

I have yet to get lucky with Craigslist. I keep trying to find either an old Schwinn Paramount or a clean Schwinn Varsity Chicago in either a 58 or 60 size range. My buddy has one, I should just knock him in the head and take it.
