Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

2005 cannondale r700 Value/opinions

Need price and info on a 2005 cannondale r700, currently I am riding a 2007 specialized allez, base model that I put a complete 105 drivetrain on, like it a lot .

Came across this cannondale r700, bought new in 05, ridden 6 times could not have been much, it looks showroom new. I rode it, felt great and fit great. Thing is I was not looking for a bike, price was 850.00 and after week of haggling I can buy for 450.00 here are the specs of the cannondale. Would this be a worthy upgrade? Better frame? I ride for excersise and enjoyment about 2500 miles per yr.

Frame CAAD7 Optimo
Fork Slice Ultra
Rear Shock N/A
Rims Shimano WH-R550
Hubs Shimano WH-R550
Spokes Shimano WH-R550
Tires Hutchinson Top Speed foldable, 700 x 23c
Pedals N/A
Crank TruVatiV Elita SL, 39/53
Chain Shimano 9-speed
Rear Cogs SRAM PG-950, 12-26
Bottom Bracket TruVatiV ISIS GigaPipe SL
Front Derailleur Shimano 105
Rear Derailleur Shimano Ultegra
Shifters Shimano 105
Handlebars FSA RD-300 Anatomic
Stem Cannondale 3-D Forged
Headset FSA Alloy integrated
Brakeset Cannondale Theta
Brakelevers Shimano 105
Saddle Selle Royal Viper
Seat Post Cannondale Carbon
Colors Saffron Metallic (gloss) (ORG).

I would most likely swap my wheel set, compact 105 crank set and 105 front and rear breaks.

The price is about right. It's a CAAD7 frame, it would probably perform better if you plan on racing. I'm not sure it's an upgrade if you want a frame that's a little more comfortable on long rides. If you've got the space and the coin, keep both bikes.

the CAAD is plenty comfortable, i've done a couple of centuries on it and it was plenty fine.

You'd be hard pressed to find anything close to it for the $. I have a Caad7 and the ride is surprisingly smooth. Don't feel a big difference between it and my carbon Roubaix. The roads i ride are generally good though.
