So I am in an interesting predicament where I now am looking to sell a bike and I am either going to sell it with Mavic Open Pros or a pair of Mavic Aksiums.

My open Pros are significanty older but are 32 count spoke wheels laced to Ultegra 6500 hubs. The Aksiums will be brand spanking new wheels. I am looking to keep the better set to use as commute / training wheels. (I have a pair of Kysirium Elites as "racing" wheels).

Anyone want to weigh in on the differences or which one is better? I would guess that the Aksiums are lighter by about 200 grams but the Open Pros have proven to be quite bomb-proof wheels. (Also have used them for some CX and whichever set of wheels I keep would also be used for CX when the season runs around again).

I am sure this has been debated (I did find a thread) but there was never any conclusive decision. If it makes any difference the Aksiums are black and the Open Pros are silver

I would keep the Open pros with the ultegra hubs. They are tried and true and will give you many more years of service, especially if you are using them for CX too. I race CX on my OPs and have never had to true them, they are just solid wheels.

I'd keep to Open Pros, too. Though they are heavy, they can be rebuilt time and again.

I'd be suprised if the openpro/ultegras are 200 grams heavier than the askiums, even with the high spoke count.

They may be about the same weight as the askiums depending on the spokes/nipples used. The ultegra hubs are heavy, but cheap and reliable. I think it's a great combo and you can get them super cheap.

Open pros can be built pretty light if you spend a little $ on hubs. With some DT swiss 240 hubs, light spokes, and alloy nipples, you'd be between 1500 and 1600 grams for a set (I think at least 200 grams lighter than the askiums). Lighter if you dropped the spoke count.
