Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

New Custom Bont shoes

I have a birth defect in my left foot. I have never had a pair of cycling shoes fit right. I used to buy two sizes and hoped my left foot could fit. I have never riden pain free in my left foot. I get bad cramping on the outside of my arch. As you can see in the photo how wide the left foot is. I did some reading on custom shoes and decided to go with Bont because they take in account the whole volume of the foot. Well today I rode 35 miles pain free in my left foot. It was well worth the investment.

Ugly as sin but whatever floats your boat. Good that it helps your foot.

Good result.

Were they made for you or are they heat molded?

Excellent investment.

It's amazing to me how much people spend on their bikes without paying attention to fit and touchpoints.

Ride safe.

Nicely done! I've looked at Bont shoes a couple of times. Amazingly light. I'm a firm believer in the lighter your feet are, the faster you can move them.

How or where did you get the cast done? Ho wlong did the entire process take? Did they also made "custom insoles" for you?

Here is one example of the casting process done for inline boots. The process is essentially the same for cycling shoes.

If you're interested in doing customs, David lives in Cape Coral, FL. Bont and others that specialize in this that can do them as well.

I have a club foot so basically one foot came out backwards. In the second photo you can see the problems I would have witha standard shoe because the height of the foot. The casting was nice because they build a shoe around the casting of the foot, thus a perfect fit. Sorry I took so long to resond.
