HELP Please. . . Trek 5.2 Frame verse 2009 Giant TCR Advance SL Frame ISP

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Hrm - I think this thread will probably be answered much more efficiently in the Road Forum, instead of the Road Racing forum.

however, since I'm a helpful guy:
I'd strongly recommend that you not buy anything with an ISP at this point, or perhaps ever...
so, of those two, not the giant...
which isn't to say that the trek is a good bike for you, just that I'm confident that the giant is not the right choice.

The seat posts on the '08 and '09 are horrible. I have a 2008 5.2. They are a pretend aero isp with sleeve that slips - I have one. They fixed the issue by going to a round design in 2010. The bike as a whole is not all bad but if I had a do over I would go with the Giant.

Or Fuji. Or Cannondale.

Wait, I did.

Are these both used frames or new? From what i have seen .. the market on used '08-10 5.2 Frames is about 600-800, so that price is a little high. On the Trek, check to see what geometry it is -- Performance or Professional. The pro has a shorter head tube whereas the performance is a more relaxed fit.

If the Giant ISP is used, check the height of the seatpost. You can always cut more off .. but cant it back on. The Giant will be a more 'racey' geometry than the Trek.

If you can, i would ride both to compare. Based on the fit of each, that would give you the best option.

I was just wondering why you thought the ISP is a bad idea?
