Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

ideas on shoes?

i like shoes. i'm going to transition to either speedplay pedals (4-hole) or bebop pedals (2-hole), and i don't want to deal with adapter plates. i'm leaning towards bebop pedals, and if i go that route i would really prefer road shoes over mtb-specifics. it would also be super duper awesome if the shoe would come in a wide size for manly man. thanks guys, you're the best.

Bikes: Some bikes. Hell, they're all the same, ain't they?

Bebop? These are the cleats, right?

Honestly, so that you don't have to worry about banging them up and/or sliding on them like metal on pavement tends to do, and to get the stiffness of a dedicated road shoe, I'd look for shoes like these:
https://www.sidiamerica.com/sidi/moun..._mountain.html
https://bike.shimano.com/publish/cont..._mountain.html
https://www.specialized.com/us/en/bc/...jsp?spid=57449

I've got a couple pairs of Sidis -- one road, one MTB. Both have similarly stiff soles. While riding, I'd be hard pressed to decide which pair feels better.

Your options for four bolt shoes are more limited.

Lake, which come in a wide width.

DMT, I don't think they come in an wide width.

Rocket 7, but you will need to take out a mortgage to afford them.

Shimano or Sidi is good option for two-bolt shoes plus they come in wide versions.

Think about pedal platform. It's not an underrated idea for road biking. I had no idea Bebops were even around anymore.

i ended up getting a pair of Shimano SH-R087GE and went with bebop pedals, but the pedals haven't arrived yet so i'm sitting on SPD-SL's still. Thanks guys!

I'm also gonna get some speedplay frogs for my casual shoes and commuter, so it will be nice to compare bebop and speedplay directly (although yes, it's not speedplay's flagship model).
