Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Alternative to Cycling?

If cycling were to one day not be an option for you, never again, what would you do then and why?

Drugs... Plenty of drugs. Either that, or I'd go back to using up all the pent up frustration and energy in power lifting.

If your a gear nut or weight weenie then backpacking is nice substitute. Always a new something or other to buy or weigh on a gram scale.

Distance running. When I get bored with bike racing I'd like to run a marathon.

Probably rowing. I have a friend who works out on a rowing machine daily. I'm looking into it as a change of pace from the trainer in the winter. Now I just need the budget!

Ride my other bike. I think you get it. Or go back to surfing every day because I live in San Diego and at least here I can watch the cyclists go up and down the 101 and talk to the other surfers about how I used to ride so fast I created my own weather. GL

Same for me. Skiing would be top priority. AT skiing anyway. Not a big fan of X-country and I'm pretty much done with resorts at this point.

I'm kinda bored with cycling as it is and can see myself giving it up in a couple of years so backpacking/hiking and fishing is my hobbies of choice.

Been doing that for years...which is what makes my suicide by cop a bit more of a challenge.
