Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Button Hole Cream

I ran across this stuff and am sure I have seen it before. Thought it was hear but a search found me nothing. Does anybody here use this stuff, does it work and is there alternatives?

Can't say I have ever had a need for it. Just wondering I guess.

The cynic in me wants to rant, but I'll just say this instead: If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

If you do get any irritation or inflamation, then I'd try something off the shelf like E-45, Nivea or even Vaseline before investing in something exotic-looking like that.

Looks pretty good. I use Assos Chamios cream when I want thick stuff and DZ's nuts if I want thin stuff. My brother-in-law loves Chamios Butt'r.

Check out the link for more:
https://www.competitivecyclist.com/ac...reams.330.html

FYI, embrocation is warming cream (you don't want to mix it up with chamios cream).

I used to love Assos creme before they changed the formula. Button Hole gives me the same tingling sensation the old Assos creme gave me. Love the stuff! It is not as thick as DZNuts and I don't think Button Hole lasts as long as DZNuts on the saddle.

I used Assos Chamois cream before but I tried some Button Hole Cream that I purchased from Psimet and I have no plans of going back. The Button Hole Cream is awesome!

Your post is confusing. Do you not understand what chamois cream is and why it might be needed, or has the product name led you to think that this is something more, er, personal than chamois cream?

Because, despite the name, you don't apply it directly to your, how can I put this delicately, button hole, you know. It goes on your sit bones. It's just like any of the other chamois creams that have been mentioned.

OK - full disclosure - I work with the owner and inventor of ButtonHole (Enzo). One of my teams this next season is "enzo'-psimet". I use, sell, and love the stuff. I have a long blog post about it that I won't link here, don't want to seem like a blog spammer.

There are also reviews on bike rumor, mtb and bicycling, etc. 2 Johns podcast, etc. It's been out there.

The premise was/is simple - when Assos changed their formula because of the bad stuff they had in it, the inventor of buttonhole was feeling - uh...miffed. He was working on other products but had a chemist on staff....so...he looked into it. Then he was POd about having to pay as much for DZ as he was having to....so he looked into that. Then he looked at what some of the other guys were using and decided he didn't like the compounds and didn't feel that they were the best to put on your skin or absorb into your body.

So...he developed his own.

It kicks butt. Actually is soothes butt. I'm lucky because I get it by the case load, but it's roughly half the price by volume of DZ, has the old tingle of the old Assos and smells like thin mint cookies. Women and men all seem to love it and I have not found anyone who hasn't fallen in love with it after using it. I currently try to put a sample in every wheel I ship. I do sell it on my site, but honestly it's just because of the relationship. This is not a profit or revenue driver for me - I sell wheels.

Enzo has been working the product into a lot of shops and distribution. Performance is now selling it online (he sent me a link to it a couple of weeks back). Good people, good product, and worth a try. Like I said - I haven't met anyone who doesn't like it or stops using it.

Eh, that's where you lost me. I have a passionate hatred of all things menthol on my skin. I've been using Hammer's Seat Saver to great effect.

Well that is the norm. I get in trouble a lot due to not explaining myself very well. No I understand what it is and how it is used just wondering how many people here use it or have to? As I said I never have had problems but who knows as I ride more I may.

It's not menthol. Think more along the lines of embrocation. ...but not nearly as extreme. I have also found if you leave the jar in the sun (like in your car) that tingle disappears.

Only thing I've ever tried for long rides was Chamois Butt'r. Worked fine. Got it as a gift. Seems like a tube will last a long time, but I don't use it very often either.

Warning, do not eat the buttonhole. Personally I think it smells like Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream. I love it, but my wife wanted to know why I put icecream in my bibs after I rode.

....too many things to say here....

There are accounts of one local racer's mother who didn't know what it was, saw a sample jar on the table in the kitchen, opened it and smelled it, and put it on her lips because she thought it was a sort of lip balm. That will be the last time she ever does that.

I think it works better if you apply it before the ride.

The occassional "after-wiff" is much better than the alternative flavor.
