Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Can you help me locate this Cannondale on Bikepedia?

https://austin.craigslist.org/bik/2263261147.html

Owner is unsure of year and the 500s I've seen don't have bars like that.

Thanks

Doesn't seem like it's worth it to me at least. You can find deals for better bikes that you won't have to "fix" for dirt cheap if you wait. I say wait.

those don't look like tiagra shifters. i'm confused again. need to find this bike online

@harlan: I agree. I'm just having problems finding a tiagra set on a bike in my area and I'm really trying to get a road bike before wednesday so I don't have to ride my fixed gear with road bikes through austin for the next week

The pictures are so bad you can't tell what they are. The guy might've mounted the STIs on flat bars or gone with mtb/hybrid shifters but the cable routing looks as though he got mtb shifters.

Don't worry about finding it online, Tiagra is not "top of the line components".

Actually looked at the pics you uploaded and it's more clear now, it really doesn't look like a road bike at all. It looks like a stock hybrid, as in it was always this way.

There it is

thanks a lot harlan. yeah I noticed the tiagra "top of the line" comment, but since she's selling her ex boyfriends bike I assumed it was just something he told her

I emailed her to let her know the info so that could help her with further questions she had, but I wasn't interested in a hybrid. She told me it's not that bike and that's its a road bike used for triathlons..

I have this frame and it's one of my favorite bikes of all time. I just love the way it handles. It's a little harsh compared to the newer CAAD's but I completed a bunch of centuries on this bike way back when. The components sound good if a bit dated. The old DA can still work great. If it has 130 rear spacing (the later ones did) it can be brought up to current standards easily. Mine had 126 spacing so it would have been a little more difficult to do. I chose to turn it into a fixed gear bike with an ENO hub. If it's in good shape and it looks like it is and it fits then I would feel comfortable offering up to a max of $300-400.

Looking at it again the list of components doesn't seem to match the pic. Are they the same bike? If it has a 7sp cassette then I think it means 130 spacing. It looks to be similar in size to my 56cm or maybe 54.

yeah I noticed that as well, it was so blurry it was hard to tell. I e-mailed asking for better pictures. He got back to me saying the original owner replaced some parts, I need to figure that out for sure.

bluechip, I love your bikes

So post #14 was a different bike. For the components pictured above (RX-100), no DuraAce in sight, I would have to lower my offering price considerably. It still looks to be in good shape but I think an absolute max of $225. I would offer less than $200 and see what he does.

Thanks a lot. Yeah the picture I found and the post on #14 matched the bike completely. I'm guessing the original owner took off the stock parts and replaced them (or I just found an identical looking bike that wasn't the right one)

Do you think a $150-$200 bike like this is worth the trouble?

oh it seems the list was just what someone had put on the frame? I don't know. The bikepedia and cannondale archives don't go back to 1990. No idea what the stock is

As I said earlier, I love that frame. I would be happy to get a great bike for $200. It's outdated but I am sure it rides like it was new. It looks like it's in pretty good shape too. You need to decide if you will be happy on an old frame or do you want something a little more modern. The only negative is the harshness of the ride. I personally think its worth it when going through corners and you can steer with just a slight weight shift of your hips. For me it's just my favorite frame. If you pass on it (and if it's a 56) I my even consider it as another backup bike to play around on.

I found the add. He is listing it as a 59cm but it looks like a 56 to me. He is asking too much though. He may not want to go as low as $200.

Yeah asking him to take half might be hard. Thanks for the feedback though, it's invaluable. Hopefully I can pick it up, I really love the way that frame looks too.

I wouldn't pay more than $200 for a bike with downtube shifters. I have a 1993 R900 2.8 and I love it. I don't find it harsh at all (I used to mountain bike so maybe I'm used to it).
