Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

CAAD 10-4 Rival or a 2011 1 OZ. Gold Eagle

You read constant news stories of hyperinflation and the world economy imploding--tsunamis, nuclear fallout, riots, 2012, Charlie Sheen.

You have a choice of stroking a 1OZ gold eagle in the fetal position in your fallout bunker, stocked with dried goods or...

riding the roads and enjoying life on a CAAD 10-4 Rival until the world ends in 2012.

Which do you choose?

CAAD10 in black please. I've often thought about riding in the dystopian future!

Can I choose a comparably priced bike so that I don't have some idiot telling me that I have to join some CAAD cheerleading thread?

You're on a bike forum... I'm guessing 100% for the bike.

Now you are complicating things.

We need (but not really) a numismatic coin collector to come in here to tell us about the details of a 1 OZ. Canadian Gold Maple, comparing it to a 1 OZ. US Gold Eagle.

Buy the coin if your planning to purchase bike later. I bought 4 1oz coins in '04 for $400 a piece. Now I can buy 4 caad 10-4's if i sell the coins. FYI gold eagles are not 100% gold(bullion).

Why would you buy gold when it is at or close to its all time high. It is usually not a good investment to buy at the top.

A bike is a consumable or luxury item. If you are truely wanting an investment how about a mutual fund, kept for 10-15 years?

It's for this reason that buying gold coins doesn't necessarily = investing in gold.

The current OZ of gold price is around $1,400. Is the Cannondale really that cheap?

Actually some dude parks outside my apt. all day long with his pickup covered in Judgement Day: May 21, 2011 signs. I wonder if he'll stop parking there on the 22nd.

This is the link to the drivel he believes in:

and my wife just sent a pic:

At least that's before my wedding anniversary. No present necessary.

So I've got that going for me.
