Report back as soon as the shoes arrive. (Hopefully you won't feel compelled to change your subject title.)

$80 for a new pair of $250 shoes might be one of those "too good to be true" deals.

You sound young. On ebay it's "Buyer beware"...meaning if it's too good to be true, it probably is. My 13 year old son wanted this air-soft gun he found on ebay. Begged and begged...swore it was exactly what he wanted. I told him it was a cheap piece of crap and not to waste his money. He still wanted it. He gave me the cash, and I bought it knowing he was going to learn a tough lesson. The gun came in and no kidding within 10 minuted the thing broke. Cheap plastic crap.

OP: eBay could be hit or miss. Before buying, you just have to prepare yourself to get something what you believe you paid for.

With a Ebay count of 9 transactions, it looks like the seller might have learned a lesson in this case. Seems he had 3 sets of new Mavic Pro Road shoes and listed them at auction, each with a starting price of $80. Yes, these are the same ones still selling in shops for up to $249. He probably figured they were popular enough to warrant a low starting price and an auction format.
2 sets went for the opening price of $80. The third for $102.50. Sweet deal for the buyers...congratulations.

I have bought a lot of stuff on Ebay. You need to do your research so you know what you are getting. Most of what I have bought is new stuff with Buy It Now. I haven't really had a bad experience. You do need to be careful though. Some people get caught up in a bidding frenzy and pay more for stuff than you can buy it from Amazon.com

I've always had good luck on eBay as a buyer. And the one time I didn't eBay handled it with no problems and got my money back.

What was the sitcom from years and years ago when the main character got a deal on shoes...only to find out they quickly fell apart because they were meant to be worn by dead folks in caskets. The glue melted at body temperature.

I've sworn off eBay for selling things several years ago; but as a buyer it is indeed great if you know how to do proper research into exactly what you are bidding on/purchasing and who is selling it to you.
