Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Anyone familiar w/ Diamond Back Podium 3

Hello all

I am in the market for a my first road bike and I would like to stay around (or under) $1,000. Earlier this evening I was killing time at Dick's when I noticed that they had an 09' Podium 3 on clearance for $849.99. Does anyone have any experience with the bike in comparison with a Specialized Allez Double? Is the Podium 3 a good bike? Is the price fitting for the product? I know this may be very broad but I'm about to start googling reviews shortly. Thanks.

Loren

Check out my post in this thread: https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...egra-899/page2

I've had the bike for a full year and probably have put about 2000 miles on it. It's still going strong. The skipping is gone and it's tuned pretty well. I had to true the wheel last week, but other that it hasn't required much maintenance beyond the initial tune-up.

I've never used the Specialized bike so I can't comment on that.

Thank you for your response vega2614. I appreciate your incite on the DB Podium 3. However, a local shop owner/road bike "guru" near my home had an excellent condition Trek 5500 frame in his shop. Around that frame, he built a Dura Ace/Ultegra bike fitted to my specs. My longest ride thus far was a cold/rainy 26.2 miles (Pasadena Marathon Bike Tour) and I'm all smiles. Thanks again!
