Nice to see some familiar faces still hanging around here.
Ive been away for about two years but finally found my way back to cycling. Ive gone through job change, a divorce, etc but things have finally calmed down to the point I can get back to cycling and back in cycling shape.
Had my first group ride in almost 2 years this past weekend. Yea, Im slow now.. and fat.. but it was great to be back riding with my group. Ill get the speed back, lose the weight and hopefully be better than before.
So.. just saying hi to those people that happen to remember me. To the new people, hi!

As an addendum to the rack post, I ended up going with a Yakima Hold Up because I needed something quick and overnight from Amazon on that behemoth was only $1.99. Sadly when it arrived and I broke the box open, the rack was busted all to hell. One of the wheel trays was cracked almost all the way from left to right and one of the aluminum beams that everything mounts to looks like someone took a hammer to it. Not exactly what I was expecting from Yakima although I guess it could have happened in transit.
I have another one on the way to me, hopefully this one is in one piece. Expect a full review shortly

I think I would go with a hitch rack. I have never been rear ended so the odds of getting rear ended are low.

You have had experience with both roof and hitch mounted racks so which do you prefer? Some prefer hitch racks because you don't need to lift the bike up on the roof. However, it is possible to get rear ended. As for roof racks, I have known people that have had their bike fly off the roof because they didn't fasten it correctly. My neighbor drove into his garage with the bike on the roof but I this is easy to prevent, put the garage door opener in the glove box or trunk.
I think I would go with a hitch rack. I have never been rear ended so the odds of getting rear ended are low.

I really prefer the hitch racks. Other than the Thelma, Ive never owned a hitch rack that I didnt feel 100% confident in throwing both bikes on the back and driving across country. The roof rack always made me nervous and I also know someone with the exact same roof rack bike carriers I had that had a bike come loose on her driving down the interstate.
My experience with hitch racks probably rates something like this:
1 - Raxter
2 - Cycle On Pro
3 - Thule T2
4 - Swagman 2 bike hitch mount
5 - Thelma
Dont know where to put the Yakima yet but the second unit showed up and it was also broken so I now have 2 broken Yakimas that were both shipped overnight. The guy at Yakima told me to take one apart for parts and try to assemble one complete, non broken unit.
The Yakima does seem well made, they just cant seem to get their act together in the packaging/shipping department.
More thoughts on the Yakima coming after I get to actually use it. Its assembled and on the back of the car. I will say out of the group, its probably the easiest assembly of them all.

Welcome back,
Your dreams were your ticket out.
Welcome back,
To that same old place that you laughed about.
Well the names have all changed since you hung around,
But those dreams have remained and they're turned around.
Who'd have thought they'd lead ya (Who'd have thought they'd lead ya)
Back here where we need ya (Here where we need ya)
Yeah we tease you a lot cause we got ya' on the spot, welcome back,
Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back.

Well, if you've sunken so low in your life, after 2 years free of communicating with faceless strangers that you felt, in desperation, to reconnect with these wacky people; I feel compelled to throw you a lifeline and say "Welcome Back".
Actually, I have been through similar 'down' times, and I have come back because of the kinship love of old bikes, 'and' there are many here among us that have hearts and souls that I can only aspire to.

Welcome back, JayC. One of the perks of a memorable avatar is that I remembered you right away. I hope your return to cycling continues to be a smooth one.

Welcome back, even if you are (were?) a "fruitbooter". Do you still skate or give that up too? Are you demonstrating the use of the gatorback braking in your avatar?
Anyway, hope you get lots of miles in this summer and get back to form.
