Bike opinions..
I'm saving up for a new bike, and I'm pretty much set on a Trek, but there's a couple other bikes that caught my eye.. These would be for weekend rides/maybe racing down the road.. I'm looking for about $1300 maximum.
This is the bike I've been looking at a lot/test ridden etc.
2010/2011 Trek 2.1 $1250 from the dealer
https://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/road/2_series/21/
The others that have caught my attention are the 2010 Trek Pilot Carbon 5.0.
This just seems like a really good deal for an all carbon bike. $1300 from the dealer.

Then I saw this one. The 2010 Cervelo P1 Ultegra SL. It's not a carbon frame, but has Ultegra parts. $1300
https://trekbicyclesuperstore.com/pro...ra-sl-3144.htm
General opinions of these bikes would be great. What do you think is the best deal?
Also is it worth the extra $$ for the Trek 2.3 vs the 2.1?

Why only set on a trek? I mean treks are nice bikes and all but there are better alternatives. For your price range you should get a cannondale caad9 plus some goodies. Helmet, shoes, bibs, and pedals are equipment shouldn't ignore. Also the caad 9 bikes are amongst enthusiast favorites. Since you live near me, you should check out the nytro bike store in Encinitas. The staff there are really helpful.
The cervelo you mentioned isn't a typical road bike. It's a time trial bike, not intended for group rides or comfort riding. You won't appreciate it unless triathlon is you cup of tea.

Sharrn,
Ride them all (never buy just based upon solicited opinions).
Whichever fits best, meets your criteria (riding style) and is withing you budget, that' the one you get.
Hopefully, it will also be the one that puts the biggest smile on your face!
Good luck and welcome aboard!
Treks are excellent bikes, you can't go wrong with one. Yes, if you go with the 2.3, it is worth the upgrade.
It was my first bike and I loved it. I only upgraded from it to a Cannondale CAAD9 because my riding changed.
When I do end up buying another bike (which will be carbon), Trek is at the top of my list of considerations.

P.S. I loved Encinitas when I lived there a few years back. Gorgeous.
