Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Road Bike Recommendation!!!

I have never been a serious biker (and only a recreational biker about 15 years ago). I am looking for a bike that will get me 20-50 miles a week and mainly ridden on roads. My budget is $300-$500 dollars. I have looked all over Amazon and several other websites and nothing has peaked my intererest.

I am looking at a 59cm-60cm bike.

Thanks!

maybe something like this?

https://www.bikesdirect.com/products/...y/avenue_c.htm

a Sora rear derailleur is plenty for a beginner, and it's always fairly easy to find a used Shimano 105 rear derailleur for a good price on ebay if you felt the need to upgrade. they don't offer up to 60cm, but have a sizing guide that might help. do you have any cycling gear? if not then you'll need to budget for that as well.

For $300-500

I recommend buying used off craig'slist - note, most people on there think their stuff id worth $$$$, too bad it's not

Other then that, for new if you'd like to build them:

Lowest:

Mid range:
https://www.bikesdirect.com/products/dawes/lt_dlx.htm

High range:
https://www.bikesdirect.com/products/dawes/lt1500.htm

If you'd like to go single speed or fixed gear (ask the forum, you'd might work out great) I ride single speed on a road bike, I love it!
Remember to get brakes!

Good mid range, yet they all are good!:
