Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bottom bracket cable guide

I have a giant ocr2. I changed shift levers and all the cables etc last year. I just noticed that the bb guide is not tall enough for clearance of the rd cable. The cable is rubbing on the chainstay right after the bb. Where can I get a bb guide that has the taller side for the rd cable?

Try Giant.com. I assume the only reason it's now lower is because after years of previous use, it has worn down.

No. I replaced the original with a shimano. The shimano sits too low.

You are talking about this right?

Again I would check with Giant or a LBS that carries Giant.

Yeah, that the one I have now. The original had a higher height for the rd. I checked the webpage to no avail.

It's close to 1/2 inch of a shim. I looked at all the new giants and they all had a slightly similar bracket. The shop owner told me to let the cable just wear a hole in the chainstay so I could get a new bike. He didn't want to contact giant for me. The company had no way to get in touch with them. I'm quite surprised these are not available. I'm guessing these are only available with the purchase of a new bicycle. Once broken, you need to start saving your money for a new bicycle. Seems stupid.

I had a similar issue, and my LBS just cut me a piece of cable tubing that I fed the cable through to protect the frame. It's just thin plastic tube, much thinner than regular cable housing. I think it would fit inside your cable guide. The cable tension holds it in place. I think it's used for internal cable routing.

My lbs said they could drill a hole through the chainstay and possibly run it through from the bb area back tothe cable housing by the derailer. The frame is I. Great shape, I'm not sure I am comfortable drilling holes through it. I can't understand where this part can be available.

I would not let the LBS drill holes in the frame. They can't get the part from Giant? Have you checked the aftermarket? How about this one: https://www.treefortbikes.com/product...-friction.html

Has to be thick like this sort of. Not exactly the same, but gas that kind of height. Most giants have one like this. Even the one in this pic does notbhave the same height as the original.

I'm not going explicitly to pass any judgment on them for suggesting drilling holes, as I am not a framebuilder. However, If I had to guess, drilling a hole in the chainstay doesn't sound like the smartest of ideas...

I would half-jokingly suggest that you let them drill holes, so when one of the stays eventually cracks/snaps, they'll have to replace it for you, however; given their extreme lack of helpfulness regarding the shim itself, I can't see them going out of their way to replace a frame for you.

Go to the giant website, and see if there's another, hopefully more helpful giant retailer around.

Thanks. So there are no online retailers that sell different sized guides?

don't do it.

have you tried the larger campagnola bb cable guide? it will be longer than necessary for the bb size but it will pull up under tension and clear the frame. not pretty but might do the job. i had one sent from merlin cycles.

Unfortunately it seems the only way to contact Giant is through a dealer.
I'd be pretty po'ed with the suggestions your LBS offered up, letting the cable wear a hole in the rear chain stay, or drilling a hole in the frame.
I had a similar problem with my TCR, the cable stay corroded off my rear chain stay. The shop took a couple of photos, sent them to Giant and within a week they had the bike shipped off to Giant for repair.
Giant will definately stand behind their bikes. Unfortunte your LBS is making this more difficult than it needs to be.

As an aside, how did they repair the cable stay?
