Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Anyone know the weight of a sram force 34/50T chain rings?

Trying to find the weight, just the rings not the whole crankset. Thanks

I would estimate, 20g? They're almost light enough to be negligible...

I have a hollowgram crankset but need compact rings. I am currently using a force bb30 and would like to seen if it will be worth it for me to just use those rings instead of putting out money for mk v rings. BTW, i asked my lbs and he quoted about $300 just for the MK V rings, wtf... AHha

Thanks for the weight weenies link!! that gives a good range, so I guess rings weight about 120-140grams in the compact 50/34t side. I think I will give the force rings a try, I dont feel flex in them as of now. Is there any reason to upgrade to RED rings over Force? Thanks

in what way(s) are the Force chainrings inadequate for you?

of course, if you like something then get it. first find out why you like it, and see if it is a valid reason (i.e., ceramic bearings).

There is nothing wrong with force rings for me, I think they are perfectly fine.

However, when I change/upgrade I am usualy open to try new parts/bike. Im sure most of us on the forums are.

Is there much difference between the force and red rings? I actually really want to get the red "black" rings since they will go nicely with the hollowgram cranks. Reason for is that it looks good, Red has a stiff rep?(im not too sure thats why im asking), and I am using a sram drivetrain so it should shift nicely.

they are actually very light and perform quiet well. i also looked into getting new chainrings for my Force crank but found out it wasnt worth it really. i see no reason to get red rings. red big ring is heavier force and they use the same small ring (witch is very light) so there would be no reason to get but the big ring anyways.

No they are exactly the same. The Rival might be the same as well.

if it gives you pleasure and does not harm others, then do it.

i have reason to buy new jerseys other than aesthetics, but i do it.

if you think it looks cool, do it. wont be a significant performance increase.

It seems that there are two versions of SRAM force rings, the normal more usual one that is sliver/lighter color and the darker/black almost matt black color version. What is the difference? Are the black ones an older model? I do not see many of them around. However, I think I am going to get the black ones.
