Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Performance Tirreno Razza 1000

I've been looking for a a good replacement/upgrade for my 11 year old Trek 1100. The Razza 1000 has caught my eye. Carbon fork/seatstays, Ultegra components, great price ($1300). Does anyone have any input (good or bad) on this bike. Can you suggest any alternatives at that price point?

Thanks,
Dave

Traveldave,
I'm not sure what performance offers in terms of after-sales care which may or may not compute into your equation. That said, the Tierreno is, I believe, a Taiwan made bike that is performance's house brand. if name brand recognition isn't big for you, then it would be a great bike. Go out and go for a spin on it to see if you like it.

Some other options in that range would be an '04 Trek 2100 or Trek 2200. Tiagra/105 or 105/Ultegra mix. Around the same price i believe. Also Specialized Allez Comp for '04 would probably be in your price range. I ride the 2200, and aside from me wanting more techie stuff, i love the ride. Very smooth and fits me properly. the only qualm I really have about it is, the bottom bracket area seems to flex alot when i'm sprinting...for reference, I weigh about 160lbs.

good luck

Do you have a local performance store so you can test ride it? If so, go for it since you will get free lifetime adjustments on the bike from them. Supergo has their house brand bike at a similar price Scattante 2004 CFR Carbon w/ Double Ultegra.

For $50 more you could get this Sampson (no tax though if you live outside CO):

https://www.sampsonsports.com/ciao_specials.html

It's got all name brand parts, unlike the Perf:

-Full Ultegra 10 speed group
-Reynolds or Kestrel carbon fork
-TTT bar and stem
-Shimano wheelset (540/550?) with bladed spokes

I don't have a Performance store near me (I'm in Atlanta). I'm thinking I can try one out (and determine fit) when I'm in Boulder in December and if I like it I can have one shipped to Atlanta.
