Thinking of upgrading from KHS Flite 300 to Bianchi Campione..
Hello everyone. So I've got a KHS Flite 300, not sure which year (bought off Craigslist a few months ago), and I need to sell it to pay some bills. I'll be replacing it within the next month or two when I've got the money. I'm not especially stoked on the KHS. Not that there's anything horribly wrong with it.. I just got it because it was a good deal, my perfect size, and I live in a semi-rural area so decent used bikes are hard to come by. But it's not like it would be my first choice if I had bought something new. My Flite got me into road riding, but the geometry isnt ideal and I want something a little more suited for my needs.
I'm looking for a steel frame, lugged or not, doesnt matter. Compact double chainring preferred. I'm new to road riding so I want something comfortable but not too limiting. I ride a fixed gear primarily, so I'll only be riding my roadie a few days a week, probably 20-30 miles per ride, maybe eventually working up to some longer rides. (I've got patellar tendinitis and need to restrengthen my knee before I can do anything huge)
Aesthetically I like low-key frames with minimal decals and such; I have a thing for straight forks (though rake is not a deal-breaker), and would prefer steel over carbon. My budget is roughly $1000.
Right now I'm pretty convinced that the Bianchi Campione would be perfect for me, and right in my budget with room for an upgrade or two. I'm really interested in the downtube shifters. I've had some before on a 1990-something Schwinn Mixte but I never really had a chance to try it out on some intense climbs/descents. I'm wondering if it would be worth my while to try out the DT shifters, and if I dont like them I could upgrade to some brifters. Thoughts/advice/reviews?
Also does anyone happen to have the Bianchi Campione geo chart? The one on the Bianchi site doesnt show measurements for the 49cm frame.
I appreciate any advice or opinions on any/all of this. Sorry for the long-winded post, just trying to be clear and concise. Thanks!
EDIT- I forgot to mention I want something new. Not really interested in anything used.
